What is Shop and Save Up?
Shop and Save Up is a deceptive browser plug-in claiming to save time and money by displaying special deals/discounts available on shopping websites and by enabling features such as coupons or comparison shopping.
Shop and Save Up may seem to be a useful and legitimate browser add-on, however, be aware that it is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP). The developers of this browser add-on employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, Shop and Save Up adware generates online advertisements and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
Price comparison, coupons, pop-up/under, banner, inline text, and transitional ads are just some examples among may other advertisements delivered by this PUP. Be aware that clicking these advertisements may result in further high-risk adware or malware infections.
Additionally, Shop and Save Up continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity and collects various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, and other details.
This behavior can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft, and for these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall Shop and Save Up from your Internet browsers.
This potentially unwanted browser extension is similar to other applications that employ bundling as an installation method. AllCheapPrice, SaveLots, PastaQuotes, and Breaking News Alert are just some examples from a large list of dubious applications.
Neither Shop and Save Up, nor any of these other extensions, provide any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements and sharing collected data with third parties.
Research shows that Shop and Save Up adware is mostly distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, and many others.
Download managers are used to monetize these websites' traffic and free services by offering installation of additional applications together with the free software. Although the developers state that these offered applications are 'legitimate and virus-free', reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be avoided by paying close attention when downloading free software and unchecking any additional programs.
Furthermore, downloaded applications should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If your system is infected with Shop and Save Up adware, read the removal guide provided and eliminate this rogue application from your system.
