What is SlimPrice?
Developed by First Offerz Ltd, SlimPrice is a rogue application claiming to save time and money by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and by displaying special discounts/deals available on shopping websites. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that SlimPrice is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
These associations are made due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) employed by SlimPrice to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration, SlimPrice generates numerous intrusive online advertisements such as coupons, graphics, sponsored messages, deals, and other commercial offers. There is a high probability that clicking advertisements delivered by this rogue application will cause further high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since this rogue application collects various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other details.
This information tracking may lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. There are many rogue applications similar to SlimPrice including Price-Hipo, Price-Hero, and rePrice.
None of these are useful to the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall SlimPrice from your Internet browsers.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com and many others.
Download clients are used by these websites as free services and traffic monetization tools, since they offer installation of promoted (according to the developers, '100% legitimate and virus-free') browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software.
Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections. This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step of the free software download procedure and never accepting installation of any additional programs offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have installed SlimPrice, and you experience intrusive online ads while surfing the Internet, follow this removal guide to remove SlimPrice adware from your Internet browsers.
