What is SkySaver?
SkySaver is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to save time and money by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and displaying special deals/discounts available on shopping websites. While this browser extension may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that it is considered to be adware.
The developers of SkySaver employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install this rogue application on Internet browsers without users' consent.
Bundling allows developers to stealthily distribute their applications together with other software, and therefore, most users inadvertently install SkySaver when downloading free software from the freeware download websites.
Most current popular freeware download websites such as soft32.com, download.com, softonic.com, etc., employ small download programs (called 'download clients', 'installers', 'download managers') to monetize their free services and traffic.
This is achieved by offering installation of promoted (according to the developers, '100% legitimate/virus-free') browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
Following successful infiltration on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), SkySaver diminishes browser performance and generates intrusive online advertisements including pop-up ads.
Furthermore, this adware continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information, which can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Although SkySaver is neither a virus nor malware, you are strongly advised to eliminate it from your Internet browsers as a result of its dubious behavior.
SkySaver is similar to other potentially unwanted programs that employ bundling as an installation method. Some examples are Surf To Save, GoSave, TopBuyer, and Smartones among many others.
These applications (including SkySaver) are useless to the user - their purpose is to generate income by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected information with third parties.
Installation of SkySaver, or other similar adware, can be prevented by closely observing each step of the free software download procedure and never accepting installation of any additional applications offered.
In addition, if you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Regular' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed SkySaver, read the removal guide provided below and eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
