What is Surf To Save?
Surf To Save is a rogue browser extension claiming to save time and money by displaying coupons and special deals/discounts available on shopping websites. On initial inspection, this browser plug-in may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that it is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Surf To Save employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on Internet browsers without users' permission. Bundling allows developers to stealthily distribute applications together with other software, and therefore, most users unwillingly install Surf To Save during download of free software from freeware download websites.
Most adware is distributed via small download programs (called 'download managers', 'download clients', 'installers') employed by these websites. Download programs are used to monetize the free services and traffic provided by websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, etc.
This is achieved by offering installation of additional '100% legitimate' browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software. Most of these installations, however, result in adware or malware infections including Surf To Save.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Surf To Save delivers various intrusive online advertisements including pop-up and other display ads, as well as diminishing Internet browser performance.
Furthermore, this PUP continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity, which can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Although Surf To Save is not technically a virus or malware, you are strongly advised to eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
There many potentially unwanted applications similar to Surf To Save including TinyWallet, SuperMegaBest, and Couponarific. Neither Surf To Save, nor any of these other rogue plug-ins, provide any real value for the user. Their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements and by sharing collected information with third parties.
If you wish to avoid installation of Surf To Save, and other similar adware, pay close attention during the download of free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered.
In addition, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
If your computer is infected with Surf To Save, read the removal instructions provided below and eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
