Savings-Hunter Ads

What is Savings-Hunter?
Developed by Engaging Apps, Savings-Hunter is a potentially unwanted application claiming to save time and money by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and displaying discounts/special deals available within online stores. Although Savings-Hunter appears to provide useful and legitimate functionality, be aware that this application is categorized as adware.
The developers of this rogue browser add-on employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install Savings-Hunter on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Savings-Hunter generates intrusive online advertisements and monitors users' Internet browsing activity.
These intrusive advertisements include interstitial, pop-under, banner, sponsored links, and targeted video ads. It is highly probable that clicking these advertisements will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, this potentially unwanted application monitors' users Internet browsing activity by collecting various information, which may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, geographic locations, URLs visited, pages viewed, cookies, and other similar details.
This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft, and therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall Savings-Hunter from your Internet browsers.
There are many rogue browser add-ons similar to Savings-Hunter including, for example, Lightning-Savings, Flash-Savings, and Find-Me-Savings. None of these extensions add any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate income by the display of intrusive online advertisements.
Most users infect their computers with adware during download of free software via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as soft32.com, softonic.com, and download.com
Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of promoted 'virus-free' browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, careless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
To avoid installation of Savings-Hunter, or other similar adware, be attentive during download of free software and click 'Decline' when installation of any additional applications is offered. If you are installing downloaded software, choose the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have already installed the Savings-Hunter extension, and observe intrusive online advertisements, read the following removal guide to eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
