What is TV Wizard?
Developed by Small Island Development, TV Wizard is a rogue browser extension, which claims to improve the Internet browsing experience by allowing users to adjust screen lights while watching online videos. Although this functionality may seem legitimate, be aware that TV Wizard is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted application.
The developers of this rogue browser add-on employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen free software) to install TV Wizard on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, TV Wizard tracks users' Internet browsing activity as well as generating intrusive online advertisements.
These intrusive advertisements include banner, pop-up, in-text, interstitial, and text-link ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will lead to high-risk adware or malware infections. Furthermore, TV Wizard continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information, which may be personally identifiable.
Examples of information recorded include Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, operating systems, browser types, URLs visited, pages viewed, cookies, language settings, geographic locations, and other similar details.
This behavior may result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft, and for this reason, you are strongly advised to remove TV Wizard from your Internet browsers. TV Wizard is similar to other rogue browser plug-ins claiming to enhance users' Internet browsing experience.
Theater Mode, Movie Mode, Mood Tube, and Movie Master are just a few examples amongst many others. Neither TV Wizard, nor any of these other rogue browser extensions add any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate income by the display of intrusive online advertisements.
Commonly, users inadvertently install adware such as TV Wizard when downloading free software via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites. Most of these websites (including soft32.com, download.com, and softonic.com) employ download managers to monetize their free services.
These offer installation of advertised 'virus-free' browser add-ons together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware frequently results in adware or malware infections.
To prevent installation of TV Wizard, or other potentially unwanted applications, be attentive during the download of free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered.
If you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Regular' - this will reveal any hidden applications and allow removal of them from the installation list. Internet users who have already installed TV Wizard adware, should follow this removal guide to uninstall it from their Internet browsers.
