What is BlackLister?
BlackLister is a rogue browser add-on developed by Revizer Technologies Ltd. Although this potentially unwanted application claims to prevent children from entering websites containing adult content, be aware that BlackLister is categorized as adware since it uses a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen software) to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, BlackLister monitors users' Internet browsing activity by recording various software and hardware information, including search queries entered, URLs visited, geolocations, MAC/IP addresses, and other similar details.
Furthermore, this rogue browser plug-in generates various intrusive online advertisements, including banner, pop-up, sponsored link, and shopping discount ads. The presence of BlackLister, or other similar adware (for example, SaferSurf and BlockAndSurf) on your system may lead to serious privacy issues, identity theft, or malware infections.
Parents wishing to protect their children from encountering harmful websites, should use legitimate anti-virus or anti-spyware programs with parental controls, rather than unrecognized browser add-ons.
Although BlackLister is not directly linked to virus infections or malware, the ads caused by this adware may be infective. To avoid installation of rogue browser add-ons or unwanted toolbars, closely inspect each step of the freeware download process and decline any suggested changes to the Internet browser.
BlackLister is a useless browser add-on, which causes intrusive online advertisements and random redirects, and therefore, you are strongly advised to remove it from your Internet browsers.
Most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download managers' from freeware download websites such as soft32.com, download.com, softonic.com, and many others. These programs are used to generate revenue from the websites' free services.
Download managers offer installation of advertised 'legitimate' browser extensions together with the chosen free software, thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often leads to adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely inspecting each step of the free software download process and clicking the 'Decline' button when installation of additional applications is offered.
When installing downloaded programs, choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications and you will be able to remove them from the installation list.
If you have installed BlackLister and observe random intrusive ads when browsing the Internet, follow this removal guide to uninstall it from your Internet browsers.
The BlackLister potentially unwanted application generates ads from the following sources: Dealply, Superfish, Jollywallet, Text Enhance, GetDeal, Daily Offer Service, IRobinhood, PriceSparrow, CouponBuddy, advertise.com, Verti technologies, Alerta Descontos, Snappyimages, VitruvianLeads, NoProblem, foxydeal, and Taboola.
