Boxore Virus
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Boxore?
The boxore virus is a potentially unwanted application, which infiltrates Internet browsers (Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome) through free software downloads and generates intrusive ads. This browser plugin promises to enhance users' Internet browsing by displaying offers and recommendations matched to users' preferences (videos, games, or music).
Whilst such functionality may seem legitimate, Boxore is categorized as adware, since it infiltrates Internet browsers without users' consent and generates various intrusive third party ads. Computer users should be aware that clicking these ads can lead to serious malware infections.
Furthermore, Boxore tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording IP addresses, websites visited, operating systems, and browser information.
Commonly, unwilling installation of this adware is caused by deceptive free software 'download clients' offering installation of advertised browser extensions together with the chosen free program. Users who do not pay close enough attention to the freeware download steps can inadvertently install Boxore or other potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).
This software adds no real value, diminishes browser performance, and generates various pop-up ads. Therefore, you are advised to eliminate this adware from your Internet browser/s.
Boxore is similar to other potentially unwanted applications, which infiltrate Internet browsers using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Examples include Lookinglink, Motitags, Web Save, and MySearchDial. To avoid installation of such adware, express caution when downloading and installing free software.
If your download is managed by a download client, decline installation of advertised browser extensions. When installing the downloaded freeware, choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal installation of bundled potentially unwanted applications.
Internet users who observe ads generated by Boxore should use this removal guide to eliminate adware from their computers.
