CashU Virus

What is CashU?
The CashU virus is a computer infection which locks the user's screen and demands payment of a ransom using CashU services in order to unlock it. This type security threat is called a ransomware virus and this particular version targets PC users from the Middle East.
When infected with the CashU virus, computer users observe a deceptive message blocking their desktop and ordering payment of the fine for allegedly watching pornography or using pirated software, video, and music files. The statements made in these messages are false.
These screen-locking messages are designed by cyber criminals in the hope that unsuspecting PC users will fall for their trickery and pay the bogus fine. The amounts vary from $100 to $300, but note that paying these fines is equivalent to sending your money to cyber criminals.
As seen in the screenshot below, cyber criminals target Qatar, Palestine, Jordan, and Abu Dhabi. The CashU virus is distributed using 'exploit kits', which target any detected security vulnerabilities within users' computers in order to inject the malicious code of the screen-locking messages.
Computer users from the Middle East should be aware that no legitimate authorities or organizations use screen-locking messages to collect fines for any law violations. If you see a message on your computer asking to pay a fine using CashU, your PC is infected with a virus.
The CashU virus is proliferated using infected email messages, malicious websites, and drive-by downloads. Cyber criminals exploit the names of various local authorities from the Middle East and use CashU to collect bogus fines. Note that CashU is a legitimate payment service provider and in no way connected to cyber criminal activity.
The best way to protect your computer from such ransomware viruses is by using legitimate antivirus and anti-spyware software. Another security measure, which greatly reduces the risk of malware infiltration, is to keep any installed software (such as Flash, Java, etc.) up-to-date.
