What is Discount Buddy?
Discount Buddy is a browser add-on created by 215 Apps and promises to help users save time and money when shopping online. This browser add-on displays discount and coupon ads when users visit various online shopping websites such as Toys R Us, Walmart, Petsmart, Best Buy, etc.
Discount Buddy is just one of many browser extensions developed by 215 Apps, and these add-ons are known to install on users' computers without their consent. Moreover, these plug-ins cause unwanted ads, diminished browser performance, and privacy issues.
Commonly, this browser add-on installs on users' Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox) together with free software downloaded from the Internet.
Installation of potentially unwanted programs (PUPS) such as Deal Buddy is a consequence of reckless freeware installation. Today, many freeware developers and download websites use a software distribution method called 'bundling'.
This is used to monetize free software downloads, however, the downside of this marketing method for the user is that it installs additional unwanted software or browser add-ons together with the downloaded freeware.
To avoid unwanted software installation, always closely inspect each installation step of free software, disallowing any suggested changes to Internet browser settings and installation of additional software or browser add-ons. Discount Buddy is not strictly a computer virus, however, it is adware, which according to computer user reports, is difficult to remove.
Discount Buddy adware is similar to other browser extensions created by 215 Apps, such as Deal Boat, Savings Explorer, Shopping Sidekick, and many others. A common source of these PUPs is download websites, which use 'download clients'. These offer installation of additional software together with the freeware downloaded by Internet users.
Note that some devious software distribution networks use 'silent installers', by which additional software is installed without the user's permission. If you feel that Discount Buddy was installed on your computer without your consent, use the removal guide provided to eliminate this adware from your Internet browser/s.
