Luxorr Virus

What is Luxorr?
The Luxorr message blocks computer users' screens and demanding payment of a 100 Euro fine for allegedly downloading copyrighted music files from the Internet. This is a scam, a fake message, which exploits the name of Luxorr (Luxembourg Organisation For Reproduction Rights) in an attempt to scare PC users into paying a bogus fine.
Do not trust any information displayed by this message - the accusations of copyright law infringements are fake and paying this fine is equivalent to sending money to cyber criminals responsible for releasing this scam.
Fake messages such as these, which block computer screens and demand payment of fines to unlock PCs, are called ransomware. This particular ransomware infection originates from a family called Gimemo and targets PC users predominantly from Luxembourg.
These fake messages often have localization capabilities, so that PC users from different countries see variants of the message. For example, PC users from the Netherlands see this message is displayed as if sent by Buma Stemra, and users from Norway, as if sent by Tono.
No international authorities or organizations use these methods (blocking computer screens) to collect fines for any law violations. The Luxorr "Ihr Computer ist gesperrt" message is a scam. Do not pay the fine as demanded by this rogue screen locker.
Luxorr (a legitimate organization from Luxembourg) is in no way connected to this message - their name is exploited by cyber criminals with the purpose of extorting money from unsuspecting PC users.
The most commonly used methods for ransomware distribution are Trojans and drive-by downloads (via malicious websites, fake software updates, infected video codec downloads, etc.). The best way to protect your computer from security threats such as these, is by using legitimate antivirus and anti-spyware software.
Note that Luxorr is not the only organization whose name is exploited with the intention of tricking PC users. Other ransomware infections target PC users from Luxembourg and use the names of "Police Grand-Ducale Luxembourg" and "Luxembourg Police".
If you see a message from Luxorr blocking your computer screen, ignore it and use the removal instructions provided to eliminate this scam from your PC.
