What is AV Protection 2011?
AV Protection 2011 is a fake program derived from a large family of misleading computer security scanners. Previous versions were named AV Security, System Security 2012, and AV Protection Online. Like its predecessors, AV Protection 2011 is proliferated through Trojans, misleading websites, non legitimate updates, and other rogue methods.
AV Protection 2011 self-installs on your computer by exploiting security vulnerabilities, and then starts a fake security scan. On completion of the scan, you will be provided with a list of supposedly 'detected' infections.
This list of detections is fake - AV Protection 2011 uses this list to scare you into believing that your computer has serious security issues.
Internet criminals have developed this program with one intention - to steal money from your credit card account. After you click the 'Remove Threats' button, you are asked to purchase a full version of AV Protection 2011 in order to remove the 'detected' security threats.
Do not buy this bogus security scanner - it is a useless program. AV Protection 2011 does not scan your PC for security threats - the process is imitated in order to scare you.
Ignore the fake security scans and warning messages displayed by AV Protection 2011 and remove it from your computer immediately. This misleading software is derived from a large family of rogue antivirus programs, the members of whom, proliferate programs that share the same interface.
You should be especially careful whilst choosing a security program for your PC, since the Internet is full of fake ones which detect non existent security threats and attempt to coerce users into purchasing their useless license keys.
The following fake security warning pop-ups are displayed on computers infected with AV Protection 2011:
"Windows Security Alert. To help protect your computer, Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this program. Do you want to keep blocking this program? Name: Zeus Trojan Publisher: Unauthorized."
"Warning! Infection found. Unwanted software (malware) or tracking cookies have been found during last scan. It is highly recommended to remove it from your computer. Keylogger Zeus was detected and put in quarantine. Keylogger Zeus is very dangerous software used by criminals to steal personal data such as credit card information, access to banking accounts, passwords to social networks and e-mails."
"Warning! The file "taskmgr.exe" is infected. Running of applications is impossible. Please activate your antivirus software."
"Security Warning. Malicious programs that may steal your private information and prevent your system from working properly are detected on your computer. Click here to clean your PC immediately."
These security warning messages are fake. If you notice that your computer is infected with AV Protection 2011, you should remove it immediately.
