Removal instructions for the ClientPartition adware-type app
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on
What kind of application is ClientPartition?
While reviewing new submissions to the VirusTotal platform, our researchers discovered the ClientPartition application. After investigating it, we learned that it is adware belonging to the AdLoad malware family. Advertising-supported software is designed to run intrusive advertisement campaigns.
ClientPartition adware overview
Typically, adware displays ads on various interfaces, such as visited websites, desktops, and other interfaces. This third-party graphical content endorses online scams, untrustworthy/dangerous software, and even malware. Once clicked on, some of the advertisements can execute scripts to perform sneaky downloads/installations.
Note that any legitimate products or services encountered via these adverts are most likely promoted by scammers who abuse their affiliate programs to obtain illegitimate commissions.
Advertising-supported software might need certain conditions to operate as intended (e.g., compatible browser/system or user geolocation, visits to specific sites, etc.). However, even if ClientPartition does not display ads – it remains a threat to device/user safety.
Furthermore, adware that is part of the AdLoad malware family often has browser-hijacking abilities. Yet, we did not observe these qualities while testing the ClientPartition application.
What is more, ClientPartition might be capable of collecting sensitive information, as data-tracking functionalities are standard for adware.
Targeted data may include: visited URLs, viewed pages, searched queries, Internet cookies, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, and so on. The gathered information can then be shared with or sold to third-parties.
To summarize, the presence of software like ClientPartition on devices can lead to system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft.

Adware examples
We have investigated numerous adware-type applications; RecordManager, ElementaryLaunch, RotatorService, and FrequencyIndexer are merely some of our latest articles.
Software within this classification usually appears legitimate and innocuous. However, these functions seldom work as promised, and in most cases – they do not work at all. It must be stressed that even if an app or a browser extension operates as advertised – that is not a guarantee of legitimacy or safety.
How did ClientPartition install on my computer?
Adware can be bundled (packed together) with regular programs. The threat of inadvertently permitting bundled content into the system is increased by downloading from dubious sources (e.g., freeware and free file-hosting sites, P2P sharing networks, etc.) and by rushing through installations (e.g., ignoring terms, using "Easy/Quick" settings, etc.).
Additionally, adware can have "official" promotional pages, and it is endorsed on scam websites. Users primarily access them via redirects caused by sites that employ rogue advertising networks, intrusive ads, spam browser notifications, or installed adware (with browser force-opening abilities).
Intrusive adverts proliferate advertising-supported software as well. When clicked on, some of the advertisements can execute scripts to perform downloads/installations without user permission.
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly recommend researching software and downloading it only from official/verified channels. When installing, it is important to read terms, study possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and opt out of all supplementary apps, extensions, tools, etc.
Another recommendation is to be vigilant when browsing since fake and dangerous online content usually appears legitimate and harmless. For example, intrusive advertisements look innocuous yet redirect to unreliable/questionable websites (e.g., scam-promoting, gambling, adult dating, etc.).
Should you keep encountering ads/redirects of this kind, check the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with ClientPartition, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What harm can adware cause?
Adware can decrease browsing quality and system performance. It displays ads promoting content that can cause severe issues (e.g., system infections, financial losses, etc.). Furthermore, advertising-supported software typically has data-tracking functionalities – hence, it is considered to be a privacy threat.
What does adware do?
Adware usually functions by displaying advertisements on visited websites or other interfaces. Some types are also capable of force-opening sites and gathering private information.
How do adware developers generate revenue?
Adware generates revenue through content promotion (e.g., websites, software, products, services, etc.). The developers may earn commissions from ad clicks, file downloads, product purchases, service subscriptions, or similar. Most of the profit is made through affiliate programs.
Will Combo Cleaner remove ClientPartition adware?
Combo Cleaner can scan systems and eliminate installed adware-type applications. Keep in mind that manual removal (performed without security tools) might not be an ideal solution. In some instances, after the adware has been manually removed – various leftovers (files) stay hidden within the system. The remaining components can continue to run and cause issues. Therefore, it is essential to eliminate advertising-supported software thoroughly.
