IMPORTANT NOTE: We do not review crypto projects, please do your own research when investing money.

"ClaimTokens" scam overview

This fraudulent page pretends to offer a decentralized platform (called ClaimTokens) for wallet validation. It claims that ClaimTokens is a powerful tool for ensuring the security and integrity of digital assets by performing an analysis of the wallet's structure and contents (including correct formatting, key derivation, and proper encryption).

Users are instructed to connect their wallets to use the platform. However, this step should never be taken to avoid monetary loss. Connecting a wallet on this fraudulent website activates a cryptocurrency drainer, a malicious tool designed to siphon cryptocurrency holdings from the victims' wallets.

This tool automatically transfers cryptocurrency from the victims' wallets to the scammers'. Stolen cryptocurrency funds are nearly impossible to recover due to the irreversible nature of crypto transactions. Once scammers take the funds, they cannot be retrieved, making it important to be careful when using platforms requesting to connect wallets.

Similar scams in general

Scam websites are often crafted to look legitimate, often using domains, designs, and other elements that closely resemble trusted ones. Falling victim to scams that employ cryptocurrency drainers can result in substantial financial loss. Therefore, it is essential to carefully review websites before entering personal information, connecting wallets, or taking any other actions.

More examples of similar scams are the fake "WOOFi Wallet Connection", "Permaswap Staking", and "Dotmoovs" platforms.

How did I open a scam website?

Scam sites that use crypto drainers are often spread through compromised WordPress sites or social media accounts, such as hacked or fake profiles on X/Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms. Moreover, scam pages tend to be encountered when browsing websites linked to malicious ad networks, often found on torrent sites, illegal streaming platforms, or adult websites.

Users can also land on scam pages by clicking on untrustworthy ads, pop-ups, misleading buttons, or suspicious links on shady web pages, or opening links in deceptive emails. Additionally, adware can be used to redirect users to untrustworthy sites.

How to avoid visiting scam pages?

Be cautious with unsolicited emails and messages from unknown sources, especially those containing links or attachments. Avoid interacting with pop-ups, ads, or notification requests on suspicious websites, and do not visit torrent sites, illegal movie streaming platforms, and similar pages.

Also, regularly scan your computer for malware with reliable security software, and keep all software (and the operating system) up to date. Lastly, download software from official websites or app stores. If your computer is already infected with unwanted apps, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to identify a pop-up scam?

Pop-up windows with various fake messages are a common type of lures cybercriminals use. They collect sensitive personal data, trick Internet users into calling fake tech support numbers, subscribe to useless online services, invest in shady cryptocurrency schemes, etc.

While in the majority of cases these pop-ups don't infect users' devices with malware, they can cause direct monetary loss or could result in identity theft.

Cybercriminals strive to create their rogue pop-up windows to look trustworthy, however, scams typically have the following characteristics:

  • Spelling mistakes and non-professional images - Closely inspect the information displayed in a pop-up. Spelling mistakes and unprofessional images could be a sign of a scam.
  • Sense of urgency - Countdown timer with a couple of minutes on it, asking you to enter your personal information or subscribe to some online service.
  • Statements that you won something - If you haven't participated in a lottery, online competition, etc., and you see a pop-up window stating that you won.
  • Computer or mobile device scan - A pop-up window that scans your device and informs of detected issues - is undoubtedly a scam; webpages cannot perform such actions.
  • Exclusivity - Pop-up windows stating that only you are given secret access to a financial scheme that can quickly make you rich.
