How to remove MultiProject adware and the advertisements it displays?
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is MultiProject?
MultiProject is an adware-type app with browser hijacker traits. It operates by delivering intrusive ad campaigns and modifying browsers to promote fake search engines. Due to the dubious methods used to distribute MultiProject, it is also classified as a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application).
MultiProject adware overview
Adware enables the placement of third-party graphical content (e.g., pop-ups, banners, coupons, etc.) on any visited site and/or different interfaces. The ads delivered by this software diminish the browsing experience and endanger device/user safety.
Intrusive advertisements endorse various rogue, untrustworthy, deceptive/scam, and malicious websites. Some of these adverts can download/install software (e.g., PUAs) without user permission - when they are clicked on.
Browser hijackers assign fake web searcher addresses as browsers' homepage, default search engine, and new tab/window URLs. Therefore, every new browser tab/window opened and web search performed via the URL bar - redirect to the promoted address.
Illegitimate search engines usually cannot generate search results, so they redirect to Yahoo, Google, Bing, and other genuine ones. Browser hijackers can also reset any changes users try to make to their browser or restrict access to the browser settings.
What is more, most PUAs have data tracking abilities. Information of interest includes browsing activity, IP addresses, personally identifiable details, etc. The gathered data is then monetized by being shared with and/or sold to third-parties.
To summarize, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can result in system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft.

Adware in general
CheckLetter, ConnectedPlatform, AboutDynamic, UpgradeSearchView, and ModeService are some apps within the adware classification. They appear legitimate and offer "useful" functions, which are typically nonoperational. In fact, this is true of nearly all PUAs. The sole goal of unwanted applications is to generate revenue at user expense; hence, functionality and user safety are irrelevant.
How did MultiProject install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed using the "bundling" technique - packing regular software with various additions. Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., used pre-set options, etc.) increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the system.
Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well. Upon being clicked, the ads can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations. Select PUAs may also have "official" download pages.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is advised to research software and only download from official and verified channels. Dubious sources, e.g., unofficial and freeware websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third-party downloaders - often offer bundled/harmful content.
When downloading/installing, it is crucial to read terms, study available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out from all supplements. Intrusive adverts appear legitimate, yet they redirect to questionable sites (e.g., gambling, adult-dating, pornography, etc.).
In case of encounters with advertisements and/or redirects of this type, the system must be checked and all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with MultiProject, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
