How to remove SearchStreamz from a browser and computer?
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on
What is SearchStreamz browser hijacker?
SearchStreamz is a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that hijacks browsers by changing their settings. Most users install apps of this kind inadvertently. The main purpose of this browser hijacker is to promote the searchstreamz.com address (a fake search engine).
SearchStreamz browser hijacker in detail
SearchStreamz changes the default homepage, search engine, and new tab address of a web browser to searchstreamz.com and does not allow to revert these modifications. Searchstreamz.com is a fake search engine that can show results generated by searchlee.com, search.yahoo.com (Yahoo), and other search engines.
Results generated by searchlee.com can contain links to untrustworthy websites designed to promote other PUAs, extract personal information, and so on. Also, this search engine might display advertisements. Thus, neither searchstreamz.com nor searchlee.com are trustworthy addresses.
Moreover, SearchStreamz may be designed to collect information related to user's browsing activity, for example, IP addresses, entered search queries, visited pages. Also, it may be gathering sensitive information, for example, credit card details, usernames, passwords.

Browser hijackers in general
Browser hijackers modify the settings of the web browsers to promote fake search engines and can be capable of collecting various data. Users download and install browser hijackers unknowingly. There are plenty of browser hijackers on the Internet. Some examples are GetRadioSearch, GetStreamSearch, and TigerVideoSearches.
How did SearchStreamz install on my computer?
Browser hijackers can be bundled with other programs. Users download or install them together with other programs when they do not change "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" (or other) settings, or untick checkboxes that downloaders or installers for those programs have in them.
Also, apps of this type can be distributed through advertisements designed to execute certain scripts and fake installers (for example, fake Adobe Flash Player installers). Either way, most users download and install browser hijackers unintentionally.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is recommended to read all terms and conditions and end-user licensing agreements before downloading and installing any software. Users can deselect unwanted apps using "Manual", "Advanced", or other settings. Files and programs should be downloaded from official pages and via direct links.
Third-party downloaders, unofficial pages, and other sources can be used to distribute unwanted software. Advertisements on dubious pages should not be clicked - they can be used to distribute PUAs too. If your computer is already infected with SearchStreamz, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
