How to remove the mylucky Tab unwanted app
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is mylucky Tab?
Browser hijacking apps change browser settings without users' permission. They usually assign them to the addresses of fake search engines.
Note that this particular app promotes tailsearch.com. It also collects browsing history and might gather other data as well. Browser hijackers are often downloaded and installed by users unintentionally and, therefore, they are classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Usually, browser hijackers modify settings such as the default search engine, homepage, and new tab - they change them to the address of a fake search engine.
In fact, mylucky Tab does not always modify browser settings in this way. In some cases, it opens tailsearch.com only when users enter search queries into URL bar. In any case, tailsearch.com redirects users to google.com or bing.com (via my-search.com and search-checker.com). Therefore, this fake search engine displays results generated by Google or Bing.
Note that, in most cases, the only way to stop a hijacked browser from opening a specific address is to uninstall the browser hijacker responsible. This is not the only reason to remove browser hijackers from browsers and the operating systems.
These apps can track information and collect data relating to users' browsing habits. For example, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, IP addresses, and other data. they can also gather private, sensitive details. The data could be sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or monetized in other ways.
Therefore, users could encounter problems relating to online privacy, browsing safety, and even become victims of identity theft.

There are many examples of browser hijackers. Some examples are Funcy Web and Stream Tube.
Typically, these apps are advertised as useful, but in fact they are useless to regular users and designed only to generate revenue for the developers. As mentioned, users often download and install these apps inadvertently.
How did mylucky Tab install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed via download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".
Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and settings, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the system.
Some PUAs have "official" download sites. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these applications as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to download files and programs from official websites and via direct download links. Other tools and sources such as third party downloaders and installers, unofficial pages, and Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., eMule, torrent clients) should not be used to download or install software.
Check all "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings (or available checkboxes) for offers to download and/or install unwanted apps. Do not click ads on dubious websites, since they can be designed to open bogus web pages or cause unwanted downloads and installations.
Remove any unwanted, suspicious extensions, plug-ins and add-ons installed on the browser, and software of this kind from the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with mylucky Tab, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
