What is search.trustenviroment.com?
search.trustenviroment.com is the address of a fake search engine. It is fake, since it does not generate any unique results. Generally, fake search engines addresses are promoted by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that are classified as browser hijackers.
Note that adware can also promote fake search engines. PUAs often collect various user-system information and, in most cases, people download and install them inadvertently. Note also that search.trustenviroment.com is promoted via an unofficial, fake installer for Adobe Flash Player.
Typically, browsers are hijacked when a PUA (e.g., browser hijacker or adware) changes the settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab, to a fake search engine URL. Research shows that, in this case, search.trustenviroment.com is assigned as the default search engine.
It fake because it simply provides results generated by Yahoo (search.trustenviroment.com) and redirects users to search.yahoo.com. Users of hijacked browsers can remove the address of the fake search engine from browser settings only the PUA that promotes it is no longer installed.
As mentioned, these unwanted apps can promote fake search engines and also collect various data. Generally, they gather details such as entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, geolocations, and IP addresses. In some cases, they are capable of accessing sensitive information as well.
The developers might sell the information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. As a result, users might become victims of identity theft, experience issues relating to online privacy, browsing safety or other problems. If a PUA is installed on the browser and/or computer, remove it immediately.

How did search.trustenviroment.com install on my computer?
Research shows that search.navigationbuffer.com is promoted through a fake Adobe Flash Player installer. It is not safe to use these bogus installers, since they can install malware.
For example, ransomware and Trojan-type malware. PUAs that change browser settings to promote fake search engines are also distributed through the download/installation setups of other programs by including them as "additional offers". This distribution method is known as "bundling".
Offers to download and install additionally-included apps usually appear in "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the set-ups (where they can usually be declined). Many users fail to check and change these settings, thereby granting permission for PUAs to be downloaded and installed by default.
In addition, unwanted downloads and installations are sometimes caused by clicking deceptive advertisements capable of executing certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Installed programs must be activated and updated with tools or implemented functions that are provided by the official developers. No other third party, unofficial tools should be used. Furthermore, it is illegal to activate licensed software with such tools.
Files and programs should be downloaded from official websites and via direct download links. Avoid third party installers and the tools/sources mentioned above. Do not open website links or files in irrelevant emails that are received from unknown, suspicious addresses.
Note that these bogus emails are often disguised as official and important. Regularly, scan your computer with reputable, up-to-date antivirus or anti-spyware software. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
