How to uninstall the SearchGames4U unwanted app
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is SearchGames4U?
SearchGames4U changes certain browser settings to promote searchgames4u.com (a fake search engine). Additionally, it might be designed to gather information relating to web browsing activity. In most cases, users download and install browser hijackers inadvertently and, for this reason, they are classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
In most cases, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing settings such as the address of the homepage, default search engine and new tab. SearchGames4U sets them to searchgames4u.com.
Therefore, users who have this app installed on browsers and/or computers are forced to visit searchgames4u.com When when they open a browser, new tab, or enter search queries into the URL bar. Typically, the address of the fake search engine can be removed from browser settings only when the browser hijacker is no longer installed.
The same applies to searchgames4u.com, which can be removed from settings only after removal of SearchGames4U. Note that searchgames4u.com is classified as a fake search engine, since it does not generate unique results - it simply provides those generated by Yahoo (redirecting users to search.yahoo.com).
Browser hijackers also collect data. In most cases, they target details such as IP address, entered search queries, addresses of visited sites, geolocations, and other data of this kind. Some browser hijackers collect personal, sensitive information as well. The developers sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.
Installation of browser hijackers can thus result in problems relating to browsing safety, online privacy, or even more serious problems such as identity theft. Therefore, SearchGames4U (and other apps of this type) should never be downloaded or installed.

Some examples of other apps that are classified as browser hijackers include NewVideoSearch, HDMusicSearches and TheConverterSearch. In most cases, they change browser settings so that users are forced to visit the address of a fake search engine and collect browsing-related (and other) information.
These PUAs are useless to regular users and can cause serious problems. Therefore, uninstall all PUAs immediately.
How did SearchGames4U install on my computer?
Browser hijackers, adware-type apps, and other types of PUAs are commonly distributed by integrating them into the download and/or installation set-ups of other programs, so that at a proportion of users inadvertently download and install them together with their chosen software.
This distribution method is known as "bundling". Offers to download and install additionally-included apps usually appear in "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the set-ups (where they can be declined). Many users fail to check and change these settings, thereby granting permission for PUAs to be downloaded and installed by default.
Unwanted downloads and installations are also sometimes caused by clicking deceptive advertisements capable of executing certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not use third party software downloaders, installers, untrustworthy websites, Peer-to-Peer networks (such as torrent clients, eMule) or other sources to download or install any files or programs. Use official web pages and direct download links. Check all "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings, and decline offers to download or install unwanted software.
Do not click intrusive ads that appear on dubious, unofficial websites, since they can open other sites of this kind or cause unwanted downloads and installations. Remove any unwanted extensions, plug-ins and add-ons installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with SearchGames4U, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
