How to remove apps designed to open hiroje.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is hiroje[.]com?
hiroje[.]com is a rogue web page designed to load dubious content or open other bogus websites. This is not the only website that functions in this way - more examples are abcnewspro[.]com, sferverification[.]com and alondondon[.]xyz.
These pages are usually opened by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), or when users click deceptive ads or visit other dubious websites. I.e., users do not often visit hiroje[.]com or other similar sites intentionally.
Typically, PUAs open hiroje[.]com and similar pages in new windows or tabs. In any case, once they are visited, they open two or three other untrusted websites or load dubious content. This depends on visitors' geolocations. Note that hiroje[.]com (and other websites of this type) uses a 'clickbait' technique to deceive visitors into allowing it to show notifications.
It suggests that, by clicking the "Allow" button, visitors will prove that they are not robots. Usually websites such as this show notifications with dubious advertisements, links to untrusted websites, etc. Therefore, never allow pages such as hiroje[.]com to show notifications.
Furthermore, PUAs can be designed to serve ads and gather details relating to users' browsing habits. Commonly, they serve coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups ads, etc. These can open dubious websites or even execute scripts designed to download and install unwanted apps.
PUAs that collect data often target IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, geolocations, etc. In some cases, they collect personal, sensitive information as well. Developers sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.

Generally, PUAs are advertised as useful, legitimate applications, however, most do not operate as promised. They do not include any features, improve the browsing experience, and are redundant. Typically, they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. As mentioned, users often download and install potentially unwanted apps inadvertently.
How did adware install on my computer?
In most cases, PUAs are distributed by including them into the download/installation set-ups of other software. This distribution method is known as "bundling". Typically, offers to download or install additionally-included apps are found in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of set-ups, however, many users fail to check and change these settings.
This gives included (unwanted) apps permission to be downloaded and installed with the required software. Users are also tricked into downloading and installing PUAs when they click deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to download all programs from official web pages and through direct download links. Other sources, tools such as unofficial websites, third party downloaders and installers Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), can be used to promote unwanted, potentially malicious apps.
Check all "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings and decline offers to download or install potentially unwanted software. Never click ads displayed on dubious, untrusted pages, since they can promote (open) other untrusted, potentially malicious websites or cause download/installation of unwanted software.
Remove any extensions, add-ons and plug-ins already installed on the browser immediately. The same applies to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system/computer. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
