How to remove the Sirris App browser hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Sirris App?
Sirris App is a browser hijacker. Software within this category typically operates by making modifications to browser settings to promote fake search engines. Sirris App promotes keysearchs.com, however, it does not always modify browser settings (see below).
Additionally, this browser has data tracking capabilities, which are used to monitor users' browsing habits. Due to the dubious methods used to proliferate Sirris App, it is also classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).
Popular browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer are typical targets of browser hijackers. They reassign the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs to the addresses of bogus search engines. Therefore, each new browser tab/window opened and search made through the URL bar redirect to the promoted address.
Note that, in some cases, Sirris App makes the aforementioned modifications to promote keysearchs.com, and in others, it does not.
Fake search engines are usually unable to provide unique results, and so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Yahoo, Bing and other legitimate sites - keysearchs.com is no exception to this and, at the time of research, redirected to Google (google.com).
It might also redirect to other genuine search engines. Browser hijackers can undo any changes users attempt to make to their browsers and/or deny access to the settings outright. Therefore, recovering a hijacked browser is impossible without removing the software affecting it.
As mentioned, Sirris App can track data. It can record browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data is then shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
To summarize, the presence of data-tracking software on devices can lead to financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To protect browser/system integrity and user safety, you are strongly advised to eliminate all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

BipApp, Puppyness Search and Auratab are some examples of other browser hijackers. They may seem legitimate and harmless, and users are often enticed into download/installation with offers of various "useful" features, however, the functions promised are seldom operational.
This applies to most PUAs. The sole purpose of these unwanted apps is to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs can hijack browsers, force-open untrusted or malicious web pages, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and collect private information.
How did Sirris App install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed via the download/installation set-ups of other software. "Bundling" is the term used to describe this deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing normal programs with unwanted or malicious additions.
By rushing through download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, using "Quick/Express" settings, etc.), many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their systems. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well.
Once clicked, the ads can execute scripts to stealthily download/install rogue applications. Some PUAs also have "official" promotional sites from which they can be downloaded.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all software prior to download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads must be done from official and verified sources, since untrusted download channels, including unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders, can offer bundled content.
When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads may seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, adult-dating, pornography, and many others).
If you encounter these advertisements or redirects, check all devices and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with Sirris App, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
