How to remove the StreamsBros browser hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is StreamsBros?
StreamsBros hijacks browsers by changing certain settings to streamsbros.com (the address of a fake search engine). Commonly, apps of this type collect information relating to users' browsing habits. Users often download and install browser hijackers unintentionally and, therefore, StreamsBros is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA).
After installation, StreamsBros sets streamsbros.com as the address of the default search engine, new tab and homepage. In this way, it ensures that users are forced to visit streamsbros.com when they open a browser, new tab or enter search queries into the URL bar.
Note that streamsbros.com is fake, since it provides search results generated by Yahoo - it redirects users to search.yahoo.com. Typically, the address of the fake search engine can only be removed from the settings after uninstallation of the browser hijacker.
In this case, streamsbros.com can be removed from browser setting or changed to another address only when StreamsBros is no longer installed. Furthermore, most browser hijackers collect browsing data such as IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, and so on.
Some PUAs can access sensitive details. Developers sell the information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.
If StreamsBros or similar apps are installed on browsers and/or computers, users might become victims of identity theft, experience problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, and other issues. Remove all PUAs from browsers and computers immediately.

MegaAp, StreamLim and Ultra Tab are some of examples of other PUAs that are classified as browser hijackers.
They supposedly improve the browsing experience, include various features, and provide quick access to popular web pages, however, most are useless and are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Never download or install apps of this type.
How did StreamsBros install on my computer?
Commonly, PUAs are distributed by using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". I.e., by including PUAs into the download/installation set-ups of other programs. Offers to download or install potentially unwanted apps can often be found in "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings of the set-ups.
Many users fail to check and change these settings when they download and/or install their programs, thereby allowing PUAs to be downloaded and installed. In some cases, users cause unwanted downloads and installations by clicking deceptive advertisements that run certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Check all "Custom" and "Advanced" settings and decline offers to download or install additionally-included apps. Download software and files only from official, trustworthy websites and direct download links. Other sources/tools such as third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (for example, torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites should be avoided.
Do not click deceptive ads, since they can open potentially malicious websites or cause download/installation of unwanted applications. Typically, these ads appear on dubious websites (e.g., on those relating to gambling, adult dating, or pornography).
Remove all unwanted, suspicious extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the computer. If your computer is already infected with StreamsBros, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
