Remove apps designed to promote allfreshposts.com and other dubious sites

Also Known As: Ads by allfreshposts.com
Damage level: Medium

What is allfreshposts[.]com?

allfreshposts[.]com is designed to promote bogus websites or load dubious content. There are many other websites of this kind including, for example, thewowfeed[.]com, hipermovies[.]icu, and gdanstum[.]net.

Typically, users do not visit these web pages intentionally - they are opened through deceptive advertisements, other dubious sites, or by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), which are often downloaded and installed inadvertently.

allfreshposts[.]com pop-up redirects

When installed, PUAs opens allfreshposts[.]com, which then opens about two or three other similar sites, or loads dubious content.

What happens next depends on visitors' geolocations. Commonly, sites such as allfreshposts[.]com demand permission to show notifications using a 'clickbait' technique - allfreshposts[.]com suggests that visitors can continue watching a video only by subscribing to notifications (clicking the "Allow" button in a pop-up window).

You are advised against allowing websites such as allfreshposts[.]com to show notifications, since they often contain dubious advertisements, links to untrusted pages, etc. PUAs also gather information and serve advertisements.

They target IP addresses, websites of visited pages, entered search queries, geolocations, and other browsing data, however, they might also collect sensitive, confidential information. The developers use the data to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).

PUAs can also serve coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups and other types of ads. These promote (open) untrusted websites or even cause download/installation of unwanted apps by executing certain scripts.

In summary, PUAs can cause problems such as identity theft, issues relating to web browsing safety and online privacy, unwanted downloads/installations, etc. Therefore, uninstall all PUAs.

Note that PUAs are often advertised as useful, legitimate applications, however, most do not have any use features or improve the browsing experience. They are designed only to generate revenue for the developers by promoting dubious pages, displaying ads and collecting information.

How did adware install on my computer?

Commonly, users download and install PUAs with other programs. I.e., when they are included into the set-ups of those programs. This PUA distribution method is known as "bundling". Unwanted downloads and installations happen when users fail to decline offers to download or install additionally-included apps.

Generally, these offers can be found (and declined) in "Advanced", "Custom", and other similar settings of the set-ups. Unwanted downloads and installations can also be caused by clicking deceptive advertisements that execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Check all settings and decline offers to download or install additionally-included apps. As mentioned above, those offers can be declined in "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings. Programs and files should be downloaded only from official websites and via direct links.

Other sources/tools such as Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites, third party downloaders, etc., can be used to distribute unwanted, malicious software. Third party installers Should also be avoided.

Do not click advertisements that appear on dubious pages, since they can be open other sites of this kind or even execute scripts designed download and install unwanted software. Remove any suspicious, unwanted apps (plug-ins, add-ons, extensions, etc.) that are installed on the browser, and programs of this kind that are installed on the computer.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
