How to uninstall ExploreParameter adware from the operating system
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ExploreParameter?
ExploreParameter is an adware-type app with browser hijacker traits. Following successful installation, it runs intrusive advertisement campaigns (i.e. delivers ads), makes modifications to browser settings and promotes fake search engines. ExploreParameter promotes 0yrvtrh.com on Safari browsers, and search.adjustablesample.com on Google Chrome browsers.
Additionally, most adware and browser hijackers monitor users' browsing habits and collect data of interest. Since users typically download/install ExploreParameter inadvertently, it is also classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).
Adware enables the placement of pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, full-page and other intrusive ads, usually on any visited website. The advertisements overlay web page content and reduce browsing speed, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
Furthermore, when clicked, intrusive ads redirect to various untrusted/malicious sites and some can even stealthily download/install rogue software (e.g. PUAs). Browser hijackers assign the addresses of fake search engines as the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs.
Therefore, with this software installed, each search query typed into the URL bar and new browser tab/window opened redirects to the promoted address. In the case of ExploreParameter, it redirects to 0yrvtrh.com (Safari) or search.adjustablesample.com (Google Chrome).
Rogue search engines are usually unable to provide unique results, and so they tend to redirect to Yahoo, Bing, Google or other genuine sites. Browser hijackers can also reset any changes users attempt to make to their browsers, if they allow access to the settings in the first place.
Most PUAs have data tracking capabilities. They can record browsing activity (URLs visited, web pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other sensitive details). The data is then shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
Therefore, the presence of this unwanted software on devices can result in system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device and user safety, you are strongly advised to eliminate all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

ProgramInitiator, DefaultAnalog and AssistiveModule are some examples of other adware-type apps. They typically seem normal and harmless, and users are lured into download/installation with various "useful" features, however, they are rarely operational. This information is true of most PUAs.
This rogue software has just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs run intrusive ad campaigns, hijack browsers, force-open dubious/malicious websites and gather vulnerable information.
How did ExploreParameter install on my computer?
PUAs are often downloaded/installed with other products. "Bundling" is the term used to define this deceptive marketing method of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions. Rushing downloads/installations (e.g. ignoring terms, using "Easy/Express" options, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the system.
Once clicked, intrusive advertisements can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent. Some of these applications have "official" promotional sites from which they can be downloaded.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all products before download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders are untrusted, as they can offer deceptive and/or bundled content.
When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads may seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to highly dubious pages (e.g. pornography, gambling, adult-dating, and so on).
If you encounter these ads or redirects, inspect the system and remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately. If your computer is already infected with ExploreParameter, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
