How to remove LookWebResults adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is LookWebResults?
LookWebResults is adware and a browser hijacker - it feeds users with ads and changes browser settings to the address of a fake search engine.
Apps such as LookWebResults often collect data. Adware and browser hijackers are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), since users tend to download and install them unintentionally. This particular app is distributed via a deceptive Adobe Flash Player installer.
Typically, programs such as LookWebResults feed users with coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups and other advertisements. These conceal underlying content of visited websites, open potentially malicious websites, and can even execute scripts designed to download and installation unwanted software.
LookWebResults hijacks browsers by changing address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab to the address of a fake search engine. These apps often prevent users from undoing changes that were made by them, unless they are uninstalled.
Additionally, LookWebResults might collect browsing data (addresses of visited sites, IP addresses, geolocations, and entered search queries), or even sensitive details. Developers sell the data to third parties or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.
This can cause problems such as identity theft, issues relating to online privacy, and browsing safety. Therefore, remove LookWebResults and other apps of this type from browsers and computers immediately.

How did LookWebResults install on my computer?
LookWebResults is often installed via a deceptive, fake Adobe Flash Player installer. These installers can also infiltrate other PUAs and malware such as ransomware, Trojans, and other malicious software. Developers distribute PUAs by including them into the download/installation set-ups of other programs.
This distribution method is known as "bundling". Usually, details regarding additional downloads and installations are mentioned in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of set-ups, however, many users fail to check and change these settings when they download and install programs.
This agrees by default with offers to download and install additional PUAs. In some cases, users download and install PUAs by clicking deceptive ads, which then execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
It is important to check "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual" and other similar settings of the download/installation setup and decline offers to download or install unwanted apps. Do not download or install software from untrusted, unofficial websites, through torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, installers, etc.
These tools/channels often distribute and promote unwanted, potentially malicious apps. The safest way to download files and software is using official websites and direct download links. Do not click intrusive ads that are displayed on dubious web pages, since they can open dubious websites or even cause unwanted downloads and installations.
Remove all suspicious apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) already installed on the browser immediately. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with LookWebResults, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
