How to remove Tituricsec adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Tituricsec?
Tituricsec is an adware-type application designed to serve advertisements and promote a fake search engine by changing certain browser settings. Therefore, it operates both as adware and a browser hijacker. Commonly, apps such as Tituricsec collect browsing-related (and other) data.
Note that users often download and install these apps inadvertently and, therefore, they are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). This particular app is distributed through a deceptive Adobe Flash Player.
Adware displays advertisements including, for example, banners, coupons, surveys, and pop-ups. Ads displayed by apps such as Tituricsec open dubious web pages and might be designed to cause download/installation of PUAs by executing certain scripts.
You are advised against trusting or clicking these ads. Tituricsec change browser settings such as the homepage, search engine and new tab to the address of a fake search engine. Usually, fake search engines display search results generated by other search engines (e.g., Yahoo, Google) or generate results that can include links to dubious websites.
Additionally, apps that promote fake search engines generally prevent users from undoing or removing the addresses of fake search engines from the aforementioned settings, unless the hijacker is uninstalled.
PUAs (adware, browser hijackers) also collect browsing-related data (e.g., IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages), and sometimes even private, sensitive information, which could be misused by the developers to generate revenue.
For example, the data could be sold third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) and then cause problems relating to browsing safety, online privacy, identity theft, and other issues. Therefore, never trust adware such as Tituricsec. Remove this app and other similar rogue software from the browser and/or computer immediately.

Generally, these apps feed users with advertisements and track information. They are often advertised as useful programs that supposedly improve the browsing experience, include various features, etc, however, they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and can cause serious problems.
How did Tituricsec install on my computer?
Tituricsec is distributed through a fake Adobe Flash Player installer, which does not actually update or install Adobe Flash Player. Note that these installers can be used to distribute PUAs and malware (ransomware, Trojans, etc.). People often download and install them through deceptive advertisements and through the set-ups of other programs as well.
If clicked, some ads can cause download/installation of unwanted apps by executing certain scripts. In other cases, PUAs are distributed by including them into the download/installation set-ups of other programs as 'additional offers'. This distribution method is known as "bundling".
Typically, the offers are mentioned in "Advanced", "Custom", and "Manual" settings of set-ups. PUAs infiltrate when users leave the aforementioned settings unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Peer-to-Peer networks such as eMule, torrent clients, unofficial websites, third party downloaders, installers, etc., should not be used to download or install software. These channels are often used to distribute unwanted, even malicious programs. Therefore, programs and files should be downloaded only from official websites and through direct links.
Check all settings such as "Advanced", "Manual, and "Custom" and decline offers to download or install additionally-included apps. Do not click intrusive ads that appear on dubious web pages, since they can open rogue web pages or run scripts that allow unwanted software to infiltrate.
If the browser causes unwanted redirects and/or displays ads, remove any unwanted, suspicious and unknown extensions, add-ons and plug-ins that are installed on the browser immediately. Also remove programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.
