How to uninstall apps promoted on web pages opened by y2mate.guru

What is y2mate[.]guru?
y2mate[.]guru allows users to download videos from YouTube, however, this is illegal practice. Furthermore, most websites such as y2mate[.]guru use rogue advertising networks - they contain dubious advertisements and/or redirect visitors to other dubious websites.
Commonly, they open sites designed to advertise potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). For example, browser hijackers and adware. In any case, you are advised against using services provided by y2mate[.]guru or other similar sites.
At the time of research, y2mate[.]guru promoted (opened) bet365.com (a legitimate gambling website) and convertopdf.com. This latter website is the download page for a PUA, a browser hijacker called ConvertoPDF.
Typically, apps of this type promote fake search engine addresses by changing certain browser settings (such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab). Browser hijackers prevent users from undoing the changes made, unless they are uninstalled.
These apps also collect browsing-related data (including browsing habits). They target details such as addresses of visited pages, entered search queries, geolocations, IP addresses, etc. Furthermore, the developers often sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it in other ways.
Furthermore, y2mate[.]guru might lead to pages designed to promote adware. Software of this type delivers intrusive advertisements (coupons, pop-ups, surveys, banners etc.). When clicked, these ads can open malicious or untrustworthy websites.
Some can execute scripts designed to download and install PUAs. Note that y2mate[.]guru might be used to promote various scam pages such as, for example, "System Warning Alert" and "2020 Web Research Survey". These sites attempt to trick users into contacting (calling) scammers, installing unwanted software, or providing personal information.
Therefore, neither y2mate[.]guru nor pages that are opened through it can be trusted.

More examples of similar pages are savethevideo[.]com, youtubetomp3[.]biz and listentoyoutube[.]online. Generally, they contain dubious ads and/or open other dubious websites.
People who are tricked into downloading and installing PUAs, which are promoted through opened dubious pages or clicked deceptive ads, can become victims of identity theft, experience problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, and other issues. Therefore, remove all PUAs from browsers and computers/operating systems immediately.
How did adware install on my computer?
In most cases, PUAs are distributed through the set-ups of other programs by including them as 'additional offers'. This distribution method is known as "bundling". Usually, included apps are mentioned (and can be declined) through "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings.
Many, users leave these settings unchecked and unchanged, thereby allowing PUAs to infiltrate with their required software. PUAs are often downloaded and installed inadvertently when people click deceptive advertisements that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not download or install software through third party downloaders/installers. Avoid Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), dubious websites, free file hosting pages or other download channels. Software should be downloaded only from official websites and through direct links.
Check all download and installation set-ups and decline offers to download or install PUAs. These offers can usually be found in "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings. Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious web pages, since they can run scripts to download and install unwanted apps.
They can also open untrusted, potentially malicious websites. Remove any unwanted apps (extensions, plug-ins, add-ons) installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the computer/operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
