How to uninstall the AccessSide unwanted app
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is AccessSide?
AccessSide functions as adware (serves intrusive advertisements) and is also designed to promote the Safe Finder website through another dubious web address (akamaihd.net). Adware-type apps also track and record information. They are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), since people often download and install them accidentally.
When adware is installed on the browser and/or operating system, it feeds users with various advertisements. For example, banners, coupons, banners, surveys, and pop-ups. When clicked, these tend to open untrusted or even malicious websites. In some cases, they can be designed to cause unwanted downloads/installations by executing certain scripts.
Furthermore, there is a possibility that AccessSide will gather information relating to users' browsing habits. Commonly, apps of this type target details such as addresses of visited pages, entered search queries, IP addresses, geolocations, and other browsing data, however, some adware-type apps collect private, sensitive details as well.
Furthermore, recorded data could be misused to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), who then would misuse it in other ways. In summary, AccessSide and other apps of this type can cause problems relating to privacy, browsing safety and other issues (e.g., identity theft). Therefore, never download or install any adware.

More adware examples of adware-type apps similar to AccessSide include SkilledEntry, ProgressStart and BoostSelect. Commonly, PUAs of this type are advertised as useful, however, few deliver any features or other value.
In most cases, they are designed only to help the developers to generate revenue by serving online advertisements and collecting data. Furthermore, they can cause serious problems.
How did AccessSide install on my computer?
These unwanted apps are often distributed through deceptive advertisements and the download/installation set-ups of other programs. When clicked, some ads download and install unwanted software by executing certain scripts. In other cases, people unintentionally download and install PUAs together with their required software.
I.e., when they fail to check and change the "Custom" and "Advanced" settings. Leaving the settings unchanged often allows PUAs (included in the set-ups) to infiltrate. This distribution method of potentially unwanted software is known as "bundling".
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
It is not safe to download/install software or files through third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (eMule, torrent clients), untrusted websites, and so on. These channels are often used to distribute PUAs and malware. All files and programs should be downloaded only from official web pages and via direct links.
Check all download and installation settings such as "Custom" and "Advanced" and decline offers to download or install PUAs before completing the process. Do not click advertisements that appear on dubious pages, since they can open other untrusted websites or even cause download/installation of PUAs.
Remove any unwanted extensions, add-ons and plug-ins installed on the browser and programs of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with AccessSide, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
