How to uninstall the BoostSelect unwanted application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is BoostSelect?
BoostSelect is classified as adware, since it feeds users with various online advertisements and is likely to track and record information.
In addition, BoostSelect promotes the Safe Finder website by opening it through akamaihd.net. People tend to download and install apps such as BoostSelect (adware) inadvertently and, therefore, they are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
In most cases, installed adware-type software serves coupons, banners, pop-ups, surveys and other advertisements. When clicked, these open dubious websites and, in some cases, even cause download/installation of PUAs by executing certain scripts.
Therefore, never trust or click ads that appear due to installed adware such as BoostSelect. These programs often allow the developers to generate by gathering information relating to users' browsing habits. Usually, they target details such as IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, geolocations, etc.
Some adware-type apps read sensitive information as well. This app can access data such as passwords, credit card details and other sensitive information. There is a possibility that developers of installed adware will sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue in various ways.
In this case, users might lose access to various accounts, suffer monetary loss, become victims of identity theft and/or experience other serious problems. Therefore, it is not safe to have apps such as BoostSelect installed on the browser and/or computer.

There are many adware-type apps similar to BoostSelect. Some examples are ExtraDevice, ConsoleLog and SystemHelper. Typically, these apps are advertised as useful and legitimate, and supposedly include various features, improve the browsing experience and are useful in other ways.
In fact, they are generally useless and can cause serious problems. Many users experience issues relating to online privacy, browsing safety or even become victims of identity theft. Therefore, remove any installed adware immediately.
How did BoostSelect install on my computer?
PUAs are often downloaded and installed together with other, mainly free, programs. I.e., when they are included into the download/installation set-ups as 'additional offers'.
This PUA distribution method is known as "bundling". Unwanted downloads and installations happen when people download and install programs without checking the settings and fail to decline offers to download or install additionally-included applications.
Generally, offers to download and installed PUAs can be declined through "Advanced", "Custom", and other similar settings. Unwanted downloads and installations are also caused by clicking dubious, deceptive advertisements that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised against using third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrents clients, eMule, unofficial websites or other channels of this kind to download/install software. Use official websites and direct links.
Check download and installation set-ups for "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual" and other similar settings - decline offers to download or install additional, potentially unwanted software before completing the process. Do not click intrusive ads, especially if they appear on unofficial, dubious websites.
These ads can open dubious pages or even cause download/installation of unwanted apps.
Remove any unwanted, suspicious extensions, plug-ins and add-ons installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with BoostSelect, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
