How to uninstall apps that open overiesarticu.info and similar websites

Also Known As: Ads by overiesarticu.info
Damage level: Medium

What is overiesarticu[.]info?

When visited, overiesarticu[.]info leads visitors to other rogue websites or loads dubious content. There are many similar rogue websites on the internet. Some examples are alisalis[.]com, speakwithjohns[.]com and exq-timepieces[.]com.

These pages are usually opened via other sites of this kind, clicked dubious advertisements and/or by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). I.e., people rarely visit pages such as overiesarticu[.]info intentionally.

overiesarticu[.]info pop-up redirects

The way pages such as overiesarticu[.]info operate depends on visitors' geolocations. Note that these sites tend to open web pages designed to promote rogue software, dubious ads, etc. Additionally, overiesarticu[.]info attempts to deceive visitors into giving it permission to show notifications using a 'clickbait' technique.

It claims that to download a file, visitors must click the "Allow" button, which then grants overiesarticu[.]info permission to show notifications. These pages usually display notifications that contain links to rogue websites, untrusted ads, and other dubious content.

Furthermore, the aforementioned PUAs might open dubious pages, serve ads, and gather data. Typically, they serve coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other ads. In any case, when clicked, these can open untrusted pages or cause download/installation of unwanted software by running certain scripts.

Many PUAs collect data. For example, IP addresses, entered search queries, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, and other browsing data. These apps sometimes also record personal, sensitive data. Commonly, the developers sell the information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.

Having PUAs installed can lead to problems relating to privacy and browsing safety. The gathered details could be misused to steal people's identities. Therefore, remove any PUAs that are installed on the browser or operating system immediately.

PUAs are often advertised as useful and legitimate, supposedly delivering various features, improving the browsing experience, etc. In fact, they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers by serving ads, opening untrusted web pages and collecting data.

How did adware install on my computer?

In most cases, PUAs are downloaded and installed through deceptive advertisements that execute certain scripts, or through the set-ups of various (mainly free) programs.

This latter distribution method is known as "bundling" and is often used to deceive users into downloading and installing unwanted apps through software set-ups by hiding information about additionally-included apps (PUAs) in "Custom", "Advanced", and other settings.

Users who download and install programs without checking and changing these settings often allow PUAs to infiltrate.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Do not download programs or files via third party downloaders, torrent clients, eMule (and other Peer-to-Peer networks) unofficial pages, etc. or install them through third party installers. These channels/tools can be used to distribute unwanted, potentially malicious apps.

Therefore, software should be downloaded from official websites and through direct download links. Check all "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings that are included in the set-ups and decline offers to download or install additional software before completing the process.

Do not click intrusive advertisements, especially if they appear on dubious websites. Commonly, ads of this kind open untrusted websites and, in some cases, cause unwanted downloads and installations. Remove any suspicious, unwanted extensions, add-ons and plug-ins are installed on the browser and programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
