How to uninstall DynamicExtra adware from the operating system
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is DynamicExtra?
DynamicExtra is an adware-type application with browser hijacker characteristics. It operates by running intrusive advertisement campaigns, modifying browsers and promoting fake search engines. DynamicExtra promotes the Safe Finder web search tool by opening it through akamaihd.net.
Most apps of this type can monitor users' browsing habits. Due to its dubious proliferation methods, DynamicExtra is also classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).
DynamicExtra adware enables the placement of third party graphical content on any visited website. Therefore, the application delivers pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys and other intrusive ads. These limit browsing speed and web page visibility. Additionally, once clicked, they force-open untrusted/rogue, deceptive/scam, compromised and malicious sites.
Clicking them can also trigger them to execute scripts to stealthily download/install rogue software (e.g. PUAs). Browser hijackers operate by assigning the addresses of fake search engines as the default search engine, homepage, and new tab/window URLs.
Therefore, any new browser tab/window opened and search query typed into the URL bar redirects to the address of a bogus search engine. These fake search tools typically cannot generate unique results, and so redirect (or cause redirection chains ending with) legitimate sites.
In the case of DynamicExtra, it promotes Safe Finder via akamaihd.net. This results in a redirect to search.yahoo.com, which is a genuine search engine. The only way to recover hijacked browsers is to removing the software responsible for the hijacking, since any changes users attempt to make to their browsers are automatically reset, if access to the settings is allowed at all.
Most PUAs have data tracking capabilities. They can record browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This sensitive data is often shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) intent on misusing it for financial gain.
Therefore, the presence of these unwanted apps on systems can lead to various infiltration and infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To protect device and user safety, remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

ArtemisSearch, TotalLetterSearch and AtlantaLookup are some examples of other adware infections. Apps categorized as such usually seem legitimate and useful. People are enticed into download/installation with offers of various functions, however, these rarely work as advertised and, in most cases, are nonoperational.
This is common to all PUAs. The only purpose of these unwanted applications is to generate profit for the developers. PUAs deliver intrusive ad campaigns, hijack browsers, cause redirects and track vulnerable data.
How did DynamicExtra install on my computer?
PUAs are often downloaded/installed with other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling". Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. skipping steps and sections, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertent installation of bundled content.
Some PUAs have "official" download sites. Intrusive advertisements also proliferate these apps. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all products, prior to download/installation. All downloads should be performed from official and verified sources. Untrustworthy download channels such as P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule, etc.) and other third party downloaders can offer deceptive or bundled content and should be avoided.
When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features and so on. Intrusive ads may seem normal and innocuous, however, they can redirect to dubious websites (e.g. gambling, adult-dating, pornography, etc.).
If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the system and immediately eliminate all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with DynamicExtra, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
