How to uninstall the Fun APP browser hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Fun APP?
Fun APP is one of many potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that are classified as browser hijackers. Apps of this type usually promote the address of a fake search engine by changing browser settings and gathering browsing data. Fun APP promotes searchnewworld.com in this way. people do not usually download or install browser hijackers intentionally.
In most cases, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing browser settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. In this case, Fun APP assigns them to searchnewworld.com and users are then forced to visit this address when they open a browser, new tab or enter search queries into the URL bar.
Research shows that this browser hijacker does not actually change these settings, however, it detects when users enter search queries and redirects them to searchnewworld.com. Before opening this address, it redirects users to my-search.com and amazonaws, and a number of other dubious web pages.
To stop a hijacked browser from opening these addresses, it is necessary to uninstall Fun APP (even if it does not change the aforementioned settings). I.e., the browser will open my-search.com, amazonaws and searchnewworld.comon on certain occasions as long as the Fun APP is installed on the browser and/or operating system.
Note that searchnewworld.com is classified as a fake search engine, since it provides results generated by Bing (a legitimate search engine). I.e., it simply redirects users to bing.com and does not generate any unique results. Furthermore, most browser hijackers record details such as IP addresses, entered search queries, URLs of opened pages, geolocations, and so on.
Some browser hijackers collect sensitive, personal details as well. The developers misuse gathered data to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), or in other ways.
People who have browser hijackers installed on their browsers and/or operating systems risk experiencing problems with privacy, browsing safety, and it is possible that the data could be used to steal their identities. In any case, we recommend that you uninstall Fun APP and other browser hijackers immediately. Never download or install apps of this type in future.

How did Fun APP install on my computer?
PUAs are usually installed through clicking deceptive advertisements that are displayed on dubious websites, or when software developers include them into the download/installation set-ups of other software. If clicked, some ads execute certain scripts that download and install various unwanted applications.
People often download and install PUAs inadvertently, together with other software, when developers distribute them using a deceptive marketing method "bundling" - they include PUAs into various download/installation set-ups. These are hidden in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings and presented as additional offers.
Furthermore, many people download and install software without checking these settings, thereby granting permission for PUAs to be downloaded and installed through the set-ups.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not download software from unofficial web pages, via Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule), third party downloaders, etc. or install it through third party installers. Software should be downloaded via direct download links and from official, trustworthy websites.
Check all settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", etc. of the download/installation setup and dismiss offers to download or install additionally-included, unwanted software. Do not click intrusive ads that appear on pages relating to gambling, pornography, adult dating or others.
In most cases, these ads redirect to untrusted, potentially malicious websites or cause download/installations of unwanted, potentially malicious software. Remove any unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons and plug-ins installed on the browser immediately.
Also remove software of this kind that is installed on the computer/operating system. If your computer is already infected with Fun APP, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
