How to remove redirects to and from restonovius.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is restonovius[.]com?
restonovius[.]com is a rogue website designed to present visitors with dubious content and/or redirect them to other untrusted or malicious web pages. It shares many similar qualities with quarenafius.com, requestfor4.com, belmonhezamil.pro, younwild.com and thousands of other sites.
Few users visit these web pages intentionally - most are redirected to them by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into devices. PUAs cause redirects, deliver intrusive ads and gather browsing-related information.
restonovius[.]com first checks visitors' IP addresses to learn their geolocations. This data is the key factor in determining the site's behavior. Depending on their geolocations, users are redirected elsewhere or presented with dubious, even malicious material.
Furthermore, restonovius[.]com uses browser notifications to run intrusive ad campaigns. It tricks visitors into enabling the notifications with 'clickbait': "To confirm you are not a robot, click the 'Allow' button". Advertisements of this kind are more than just an annoyance, they diminish the browsing experience by reducing browsing speed and limiting web page visibility.
They are also a threat, since they can redirect to untrusted/rogue, sale-based, compromised, deceptive/scam and even malicious pages. Some of these ads can execute scripts to stealthily download/install unwanted content (including PUAs). Unwanted applications can generate redirects to likewise hazardous sites and/or deliver intrusive ads.
Regardless of their specific capabilities, most PUAs track data. Information of concern includes (but is not limited to) URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, IP addresses, geolocations and other personal details. This sensitive data is often shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it for financial gain.
In summary, PUAs can cause various infiltration and infections, lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, you are advised to remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

PUAs often seem legitimate and useful - people are enticed into downloading/installing them with offers of "useful" features. In fact, these advertised functions are rarely operational and, even if they do work, it is not as promised. The only purpose of PUAs is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value.
PUAs operate by force-opening untrusted and malicious web pages, delivering intrusive advertisements (e.g. pop-ups, surveys, banners, coupons, etc.) and collecting private data.
How did adware install on my computer?
Some PUAs have "official" promotional pages from which they can be downloaded, however, they also proliferate via the download/installation set-ups of other software. "Bundling" is the term used to define this deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing normal products with unwanted or malicious programs.
Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. using presets, skipping steps and sections) increases the risk of these unwanted apps being allowed onto the system. Intrusive ads also proliferate these apps. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
It is important to verify the legitimacy of software, before download/installation. All downloads should be performed via official and verified sources. Do not use P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule, etc.), free file-hosting websites or other third party downloaders.
When downloading and installing, read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, functions and so on. Intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious sites such as gambling, pornography, adult-dating and others.
If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
