What is gusimp[.]net?
gusimp[.]net is a rogue web page, which is similar to find-soulmates.com, histleolderlandch.info, terko.pro and countless others (and also related to adf.ly). Visitors to this site are presented with dubious content and/or redirected to other untrustworthy or malicious websites. People do not often access gusimp[.]net intentionally - they are redirected by intrusive advertisements or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already present on their systems. PUAs do not need express user permission to infiltrate devices. Following successful infiltration, they generate redirects, run intrusive ad campaigns and monitor users' browsing activity.
Once accessed, gusimp[.]net first checks users' IP addresses to learn their geolocations, which determines the website's further behavior. Depending on their geolocations, visitors are redirected elsewhere or presented with dubious content. Additionally, gusimp[.]net uses browser notifications, the consent option to which it hides within 'clickbait' ("Please tap the Allow button to continue"). If users are tricked into consenting to notifications, the site is then enabled to begin running intrusive ad campaigns. Advertisements of this type are more than just a nuisance (limiting browsing speed and web page visibility), they are also a threat to device/user safety. When clicked, intrusive ads can cause redirects to untrustworthy, compromised, deceptive, scam and even malicious web pages. Some can execute scripts to stealthily download/install PUAs. As mentioned, unwanted applications force-open similarly dangerous sites and deliver intrusive advertisements. PUAs might also track data. They use these capabilities to monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, search queries typed, etc.) and collect users' personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This sensitive data can then be shared with third parties seeking to misuse it for profit. It can also be used for criminal purposes. To summarize, PUAs can lead to various browser and system infiltration/infections and result in financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. Therefore, you are strongly advised to remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

PUAs often seem legitimate and entice users to install with a wide variety of "useful" features, however, these functions are rarely operational. Even if they do work, it is not as advertised. Their sole purpose is to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs cause redirects to untrustworthy and malicious web pages, run intrusive ad campaigns and gather vulnerable data.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs are commonly downloaded/installed unintentionally together with other programs. This deceptive marketing technique of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious content is called "bundling". Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. ignoring or skimming terms, using pre-set options, skipping steps and sections, etc.) increases the risk of potential system infiltration and infections. Some of these apps have "official" promotional web pages from which they can often be downloaded "free". When clicked, intrusive ads can be triggered to execute scripts designed to download/install PUAs without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all content, before downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download channels. Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), free file-hosting sites, third party downloaders and similar sources are dubious and untrustworthy. You are advised against using them. When downloading/installing, read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional products (e.g. apps, tools, features and so on). Intrusive ads typically seem normal and harmless, however, they can generate redirects to dubious websites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating and others). If you experience advertisements/redirects of this kind, inspect the device and remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins without delay. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
