What is Accurate Weather Today?
The Accurate Weather Today app supposedly provides quick access to weather forecast websites. In fact, it is designed to promote a fake search engine by changing certain browser settings to accurateweathertoday.com. Apps of this type are categorized as browser hijackers and potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Typically, people download and install PUAs inadvertently. Additionally, most browser hijackers are designed to record information about users' browsing habits. Research shows that Accurate Weather Today is distributed and installed together with another PUA called Search Defender Prime.
Typically, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. Accurate Weather Today assigns them to accurateweathertoday.com. People who use browsers with this app installed on them are forced to visit accurateweathertoday.com when they open a new window, tab, or search through the URL bar.
Most browser hijackers prevent users from undoing/changing settings that were appointed by them - the only option is to remove/uninstall these apps from browsers and/or computers. Note that most fake search engines do not generate any unique results - they provide results that are generated by other, usually legitimate, search engines.
In this case, accurateweathertoday.com displays results gathered by Yahoo (search.yahoo.com). Furthermore, browser hijackers gather data such as users' IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, URLs of visited websites, and so on. These apps might also collect personal, sensitive data.
The developers often share the information with third parties (cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, having a browser hijacked by apps of this type can lead to problems with browsing safety, privacy, and some users might even have their identities stolen by cyber criminals.

How did Accurate Weather Today install on my computer?
If clicked, some advertisements run scripts that cause download/installation of unwanted applications. In other cases, people end up having PUAs downloaded and/or installed when they download and/or install other, regular software. PUAs are often included in the download/installation set-ups of various software.
This distribution method is called "bundling". Developers present these unwanted apps as additional offers, which can be found in settings of the set-ups such as "Custom", "Advanced", and so on. Many people fail to check these settings and leave them unchanged, thereby agreeing by default with offers to download and/or install additional, potentially unwanted software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Avoid downloading software from unofficial pages, using Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule (and other such tools), third party downloaders, etc., and installing it using third party installers. Download via direct download links and official, trustworthy websites.
Check all settings such as "Custom", "Advanced" of any download or installation setup, and dismiss offers to download or install unwanted software.
Do not trust or click intrusive ads that are displayed on web pages relating to gambling, pornography, adult dating, and others - they often redirect to untrustworthy, potentially malicious websites or cause download or installation of unwanted applications. Do not click ads of this type.
Check the list of apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) that are installed on the browser and remove any unwanted, unknown entries.
Also remove any software of this kind installed on the computer/operating system. If your computer is already infected with Accurate Weather Today, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
