How to stop redirects to and from search.gravenday.com

What is search.gravenday.com?
Virtually identical to studentslearnintogether.club, home.specialtab.com, quickgosearch.com, and countless others, search.gravenday.com is a fake search engine.
It supposedly improves web searches and optimizes download/installation processes (faster downloads, successful installations, etc.), however, as with many fraudulent web search tools, it does not actually possess such features. This site is primarily promoted by download/install set-ups of browser hijacking applications.
Note that search.gravenday.com and most browser hijackers have data tracking capabilities, which they employ to monitor and collect browsing-related information.
Popular browsers such as Google Chrome, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox are the most common targets of browser hijackers. These applications make unauthorized changes to browsers to promote fake search engines. They reassign the homepage, new tab/window, and default search engine URLs to the addresses of their fake searchers.
For example, with an app promoting search.gravenday.com installed, each new tab/window opened and each search query typed into the URL bar redirects to this fake search engine. Few fraudulent search tools can provide unique results - they typically redirect to (or cause redirection chain ending with) Google, Yahoo, Bing, or other legitimate search engines.
This is the case with search.gravenday.com, which redirects to search.yahoo.com. While these changes may seem insignificant and relatively easy to undo, without removing the browser hijacker in question, it is impossible. Access to the browser settings can be limited or denied, and any permitted changes made, automatically reset.
Note that browser hijackers download/install additional content: "helper objects", such as PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications) and/or rogue browser extensions/plug-ins. The helper objects limit/deny and/or reset browser settings. Furthermore, these additions gather data (in the same way as search.gravenday.com).
They record users' browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.) and collect personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This private data can then be passed on to third parties (often, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it for financial gain.
Therefore, the presence of data-tracking content on devices can lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. If you experience redirects to search.gravenday.com (or other, similar sites), check the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and suspicious browser extensions/plug-ins.

Fake search engines often seem legitimate, with the appearance of genuine tools. They offer additional 'features' such as software download/installation, optimization, and so on. In fact, they cannot provide search results and their supplementary functions are nonoperational.
The purpose of these fraudulent search engines is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value. Rather than operating as advertised, they cause redirects to unwanted/untrustworthy and potentially malicious websites, and track sensitive data.
How did search.gravenday.com install on my computer?
search.gravenday.com is promoted by the download/installation set-ups of browser hijacking apps. PUAs such as browser hijackers often infiltrate devices together normal software. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular products with unwanted or malicious content is called "bundling".
Rushing download/install processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled applications onto systems. Intrusive advertisements can also download/install PUAs. When clicked, they execute scripts to download/install unwanted content without users' permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Research all content, before downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download channels. Avoid P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), free file-hosting sites, third party downloaders and similar sources, as they are classed as untrustworthy.
When downloading/installing, read the terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out of additional apps, tools, functions, etc. Intrusive ads usually seem legitimate and innocuous, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating and others).
If you encounter advertisements/redirects of this kind, inspect the device and remove all dubious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins without delay. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
