How to remove MetroPremium adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is MetroPremium?
MetroPremium is adware, which is promoted as legitimate software that supposedly makes everyday web browsing easier.
In fact, it deploys advertisements and gathers information relating to web browsing activity. In most cases, people download and install apps such as MetroPremium inadvertently and, for this reason, they are classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Typically, adware such as MetroPremium feeds users with intrusive ads. People who click them are usually redirected to untrustworthy websites or allow them to run scripts that download or install unwanted, possibly malicious software. Some examples of ads displayed by adware are pop-ups, coupons, banners, surveys, and so on.
These often conceal underlying content of visited web pages. Furthermore, adware-type apps are often used to record user-system information - typically, information relating to users' browsing habits such as IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, and so on.
Adware might also collect personal, sensitive details. Adware developers commonly share the data with other parties (possibly, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. These actions can lead to problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, and even identity theft.

MetroPremium is similar to IdeaShared, DynamicPanel, ForwardOpen, and a number of other apps. In most cases, adware-type apps are advertised as useful, legitimate applications, however, most are useless. They do not operate as promised and are designed only to help developers to generate revenue.
To avoid any possible problems that could be caused by adware, remove this software from your system and browser immediately.
How did MetroPremium install on my computer?
Apps such as MetroPremium are often installed with other software. This happens when developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - they include PUAs into the set-ups of other programs.
They hide these additionally-included applications in settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", and so on, and hope that people will fail to check them. Leaving the settings unchanged can allow PUAs to be downloaded and/or installed with regular software (which has the additional apps included in the setup).
As mentioned, PUAs can also be downloaded and/or installed through deceptive ads.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Check "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual", and other similar settings that are included into download or installation setups and dismiss offers to install or download additionally-included, unwanted software. Do not download software from untrustworthy, unofficial websites, using torrent clients, eMule (and other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, and so on.
The same applies to installation through third party installers. Download files and programs from official websites and via direct links. Do not click intrusive ads, especially those displayed on unofficial, dubious websites. People who click them usually arrive at dubious websites or cause unwanted downloads/installations.
If unwanted, intrusive ads appear regularly and/or redirects to dubious web pages happen often, it is likely that they are caused by an adware-type or other unwanted app installed on the browser or computer.
In these cases, we recommend that you remove all unwanted, unknown add-ons, extensions, and plug-ins from the web browser, and programs of this type from the operating system. If your computer is already infected with MetroPremium, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
