Remove WindowMix from the operating system

What is WindowMix?
The WindowMix app supposedly provides features to enhance the internet browsing experience, however, it is actually an adware-type app.
Adware is software that is usually designed to display various unwanted, intrusive ads. In some cases, these apps also collect details relating to users' browsing activity. They are categorized as potentially unwanted apps (PUAs), since most people download and install them unintentionally.
Once installed, PUAs such as WindowMix display coupons, surveys, pop-up ads, banners, and so on. It is not safe to click any of these ads, since they might lead to potentially malicious, untrustworthy websites that promote unwanted applications.
Furthermore, adware-type apps can gather browsing-related details including, for example, IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of opened web pages, entered search queries, and so on. Adware developers often send the details to other people (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse them to generate revenue.
It is possible that recorded information might include personal, sensitive details. Therefore, uninstall WindowMix and other adware immediately.

WindowMix is very similar to many other adware-type apps such as AssistEngine, GenerelOpen, and TechNetSearch. Despite any differences, all feed users with unwanted ads and/or collect various details. The presence of adware can lead to unwanted downloads, installations, problems with browsing safety, privacy, and so on.
To avoid this, remove adware from the operating system and browser immediately.
How did WindowMix install on my computer?
Some potentially unwanted apps can be downloaded from their websites, however, most people download/install them through clicked intrusive ads or other software.
To trick people into downloading/installing PUAs, developers often use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - they hide adware or other PUAs in "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar parts of various download/installation set-ups. In most cases, information about additionally-included (bundled) apps is not properly disclosed.
Furthermore, people often fail to check the settings, leaving them unchanged. In doing so, they grant permission for PUAs to be downloaded and/or installed with regular software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Download all programs from official and trustworthy websites. Other sources/channels such as third party downloaders, torrent clients, eMule or other Peer-to-Peer networks, unofficial pages, third party installers, etc., are often used to promote unwanted apps.
Check all available "Advanced", "Custom" and other similar settings when downloading/installing software. Avoid clicking intrusive ads, since they often cause redirects to untrustworthy websites. In most cases, these ads are displayed on sites relating to gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.
Check the default browser for any unwanted/suspicious apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) and remove them. The same should be applied to software of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with WindowMix, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
