Stop Login To My Email from hijacking your browser
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Login To My Email?
Login To My Email is a browser hijacker, it is endorsed as a quick access tool to users' preferred email service providers. It supposedly allows users to check their emails via browser's homepages and new tabs. Email providers it is allegedly compatible with include: Gmail, Outlook, AOL and Yahoo.
The alterations Login To My Email makes to browsers are not as advertised and instead are designed for the promotion of its fake search engine - search.logintomyemailtab.com. Additionally, this rogue application spies on users' browsing activity and consequently gathers their personal information.
As most users install Login To My Email inadvertently, it is classified as a PUA (potentially unwanted application).
The most popular browsers - Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet explorer - are the common targets of browser hijackers. These undesirable apps hijack browsers by changing their homepages, new tab/window URLs and default search engines to promote their fraudulent web searching tools.
Using an affected browser means that every new tab/window opened and every single web search done via the URL bar - all redirect to a fake search engine. Since most of these tools are unable to provide any search results, they often redirect (or cause redirection chains culminating in) a legitimate search engine (e.g. Yahoo, Google, Bing and others).
Even if a fake web searcher is capable of providing results, they are not unique and listed pages are likely to be unreliable and/or malicious. Login To My Email modifies browser to redirect to search.logintomyemailtab.com, which in turn redirects to search.yahoo.com.
These alterations seriously hinder browsing and while they may appear to be easily reversible - usually that is not the case. Without removing the hijacking application, access to certain settings can be limited/denied and any changes made - automatically reset.
It is worthy of mentioning, that Login To My Email promotes another browser hijacker/PUA called Encrypted Search. As stated in the introduction, nearly all browser hijackers are capable of tracking data. By monitoring users' browsing habits, they can infer personal information (IP address, geolocation and personal details).
What is of import, is that this data is used to generate revenue and thereby sold to third parties (possibly, cyber criminals). Therefore, presence of data tracking content within devices can lead to severe privacy issues, financial losses and threaten user safety (even culminate in identity theft). All detected/suspected PUAs are recommended for immediate removal.

Browser hijackers share many similar traits in-between. For example, Login To My Email is akin to My Inbox App, Inbox Manager, Your Email Simplified, My Mail Center and so on. In general, PUAs have common through lines. While the abilities they boast and features they offer have a wide range - the way the applications operate does not.
Regardless of legitimate appearances and "useful" features, it must be known, that in most cases all abilities they advertise are nonfunctional.
Due to their only goal being profit generation for their developers, they are worthless to users. Instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs hijack browsers, cause redirects to sale-based/unreliable/malignant websites, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and gather sensitive data.
How did Login To My Email install on my computer?
Some PUAs (like Login To My Email) have "official" sites, where they are often advertised as "free" software. However, they can also be unintentionally installed alongside desired content. The deceptive marketing tactic of packing ordinary programs with PUAs is termed "bundling".
This method is widely used by unwanted app developers and is often a very successful mode of proliferation. By rushing through download/install setups, users can miss the presence of or opt-out/decline choices from undesirable content. PUAs are also spread by intrusive advertisements, which can execute scripts to download/install such.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is strongly recommended to always research desired content (e.g. applications, browser extensions/plug-ins and etc.) before downloading/installing, in order to verify its legitimacy. It is also recommended to only use trustworthy and verified download sources, as opposed to third party downloaders.
Untrustworthy download sources are more likely to offer bundled software. When installing programs, users are advised to read terms and explore possible options. They should also use "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out from all additional apps and/or features.
It should be remembered, that invasive adverts typically look ordinary and harmless, therefore they are easy to mistake as genuine. However, such advertisements tend to redirect to unreliable websites, such as gambling, pornography, adult-dating and similar types.
Should suspicious ads or unauthorized redirects be encountered, users are encouraged to inspect their systems. If any dubious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins are found - they must be removed immediately.
If your computer is already infected with Login To My Email, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
