Searchv.dooryov.com Redirect (Mac)

What is searchv.dooryov.com?
searchv.dooryov.com (also known as search.dooryov.com) is a typical fake search engine. Like many others, it is presented as a useful and legitimate search engine.
Developers promote it by offering quick, improved search results, however, you are advised not to trust websites (search engines) such as searchv.dooryov.com, since they are promoted using rogue downloaders/installers, which usually modify browser settings. Furthermore, this search engine collects various data relating to users' browsing habits.
The aforementioned downloaders/installers usually target browsers such as Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome and have an impact on certain settings. In this case, the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL are changed to searchv.dooryov.com.
None of these settings can be restored/reverted to their previous state, since the rogue downloaders/installers install browser applications (extensions, plug-ins, or add-ons) called "helper objects". These apps ensure that the settings cannot be changed - they reassign them when any attempts are made to modify them.
Therefore, users with browsers hijacked in this way are forced to visit searchv.dooryov.com when they open their browsers, new tabs, or enter a search query into the URL bar. Furthermore, this fake search engine does not provide any unique results.
If a search query is made, it simply redirects to search.yahoo.com, thus providing results generated by the legitimate Yahoo search engine. The fake search engine also gathers browsing-related information such as IP addresses, geo-locations, search queries, URLs of visited websites, and so on. This also applies to installed "helper objects".
It is possible that sensitive/personal data is also recorded. To generate revenue, developers share the data with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue.
Therefore, having potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) installed and using fake search engines can lead to various problems including, for example, privacy/browsing safety issues and even identity theft.

There are many fake search engines on the internet and most are similar. Some examples are search.elifaint.com, search.fegline.com, and search.blueslaluz.com. Developers present them as legitimate search engines, however, these are only attempts to trick people into using them.
In fact, most of these search engines provide none of the features or tools. Using them simply helps the developers to generate revenue whilst regular users receive nothing in return.
How did searchv.dooryov.com install on my computer?
When various potentially unwanted apps are distributed through rogue downloaders/installers, it usually means that the "bundling" method is used. Software developers use this method to trick people into downloading/installing unwanted apps with other software.
They hide PUAs in "Custom", "Advanced" (and other similar) settings/options of the download or installation set-ups. Many people cause unwanted installations or downloads by failing to check settings and rushing the download/installation processes.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid unwanted downloads or installations, download software (especially freeware) from official websites, using direct links, or trustworthy sources. Third party software installers, downloaders, third party downloaders, P2P (Peer-to-Peer) networks such as torrents or other similar sources should not be used. Do not rush the software installation or download process.
Check "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings/options. The same applies to checkboxes ticked by default. If there are any offers to install additional apps, deselect them before finishing the installation (or download) process.
If unwanted redirects to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating (and other similar websites) happen often, check the list of installed apps (add-ons, plug-ins, extensions) on the browser and remove any unknown, unwanted or suspicious entries immediately.
Also remove unwanted entries from the list of installed programs on the computer. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
