Miksearch.club Redirect (Mac)
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is miksearch.club?
miksearch.club is a fake search engine that is promoted as if it is legitimate and capable of providing an enhanced browsing experience (more accurate search results, faster searches, and so on).
This may seem to be a useful search engine, however, miksearch.club is promoted using rogue download/installation set-ups that modify browser settings and record browsing-related data.
Rogue set-ups that promote miksearch.club infiltrate Safari, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox and change browser settings such as default search engine, new tab URL, and homepage. In this case, these settings are assigned to miksearch.club.
Therefore, people who use browsers affected by these rogue set-ups are forced to visit miksearch.club when they open browsers or new tabs. Rogue set-ups install "helper objects" (browser plug-ins/applications) that prevent users from undoing these changes - they reassign settings when attempts are made to change them.
Another problem with miksearch.club and "helper objects" is that they record IP addresses, search queries, geo-locations, URLs of visited websites, and other browsing-related data. Developers share this data with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) to generate revenue.
The third parties also misuse the information to generate revenue. Thus, having these apps installed might cause problems relating to privacy, browsing safety, and so on. We advise against the use of the miksearch.club fake search engine. Remove any unwanted apps from your browsers immediately.

There are many fake search engines online. Some other examples are search.hogwarin.com, search-me.club, and mysearchency.com.
Developers often promote them as 'useful search engines' and encourage people to take advantage of their improved search results, faster searches, and so on. In fact, these promotions are merely attempts to trick people into using fake search engines. They are designed only to generate revenue for their developers and provide no real value or useful functionality.
In addition, fake search engines often generate misleading results and intrusive advertisements. These typically lead to dubious (potentially malicious websites). Thus, using fake search engines can lead to system infections.
How did miksearch.club install on my computer?
As mentioned above, developers promote miksearch.club using rogue download/installation set-ups. Therefore, many users inadvertently allow them to make changes to browser settings without their knowledge. Users are also tricked into installation of rogue software when developers use a deceptive marketing method "bundling" - in this way, users grant permission for setups to to change browser settings by hiding information regarding additional installations in "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings of the download or installation procedures. Nevertheless, these changes cannot be made without users' manual intervention. Permissions are often granted inadvertently when users skip download/installation steps and leaving settings unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software using legitimate, official and trustworthy websites or other channels. Do not use third party software downloaders/installers such as torrent clients and other such tools or untrustworthy/unofficial websites. Do not finish any installation or download without checking all available "Custom", "Advanced" and other options/settings.
Deselect all bundled (additionally-included) apps and only then finish the installation/download. Note that intrusive advertisements may seem legitimate, but many are deceptive or malicious. They cause unwanted redirects to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.
If you encounter ads that redirect to dubious websites, check for unknown or unwanted extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons installed on your browser (or programs installed on your computer). Eliminate unwanted entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
