PackTrackPlus Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is PackTrackPlus?
The PackTrackPlus app is promoted as a tool that allows users to track their packages with the ability to choose from various carriers.
These features may seem useful, but this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted app (PUA). PackTrackPlus is an adware-type application that most users install inadvertently. Furthermore, it delivers intrusive advertisements and records browsing-related (and other data).
Since it is an adware-type app, PackTrackPlus gathers data such as IP addresses, search queries, URLs of visited websites, and other similar browsing-related information. Note that these apps also collect personal details. Developers share the data with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue.
Thus, having potentially unwanted apps such as PackTrackPlus installed puts users at risk of problems relating to privacy, browsing safety, or even identity theft. Furthermore, most adware-type apps feed users with ads, such as coupons, pop-ups, banners, surveys, and so on.
These are usually displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content. The ads are distracting and annoying. Furthermore, clicking them often results in redirects to dubious websites that might be malicious or deceptive in some way.
Some of these ads run scripts that download and install other unwanted apps. Therefore, PUAs can cause a number of problems including privacy issues and computer infections. We recommend that you uninstall PackTrackPlus immediately.

The internet is full of adware-type apps. Other examples are EasyDirections, RinoReader, and Yayzap. They are promoted as 'useful' and offer various features, however, most serve the same purpose: to generate revenue for their developers by delivering ads and gathering data.
How did PackTrackPlus install on my computer?
PackTrackPlus is promoted using an official website, however, users usually install these apps unintentionally through clicked intrusive ads or when software developers use "bundling", a method that developers use to trick users into installing unwanted apps together with other software.
This is achieved by hiding additional apps in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of the installation/download set-ups. Developers avoid disclosing information about the presence of these bundled apps and hope that users will grant permission to install (or download) them by skipping installation/download steps or leaving settings unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software from trustworthy and official sources/websites. Do not use third party software downloaders/installers, torrents, or other similar sources. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the download or installation processes. Do not skip steps without checking all settings.
Deselect offers to install or download any unwanted apps, and only then finish the process. If you continually encounter advertisements that redirect you to dubious websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.), adware (or other PUAs) might be installed on your browser or operating system.
Check your browser for any unwanted extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons, and remove all unwanted/unknown or suspicious entries. The same applies to programs installed on your computer. If your computer is already infected with PackTrackPlus, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
