Go.querymo.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is go.querymo.com?
go.querymo.com is a fake search engine that, according to developers, enhances the browsing experience by providing more accurate and faster search results. Redirects to this search engine are caused by adware-type applications/extensions that belong to the Opurie adware family.
These dubious applications usually infiltrate systems without users' knowledge and gather data relating to browsing activity. Some other examples of fake search engines are go.searchgenieo.com, go.correcticko.com, and go.bonanzoro.com.
Most of these adware-type applications target the Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer browsers. Once installed, this application changes the search engine, homepage, and new tab URLs to go.querymo.com. Adware often installs "helper objects" - applications/browser plug-ins that prevent users from reverting the changes made to browser settings.
When attempting to return browser settings to their previous states, helper objects change them back again. Therefore, affected users are forced to visit go.querymo.com when they open browsers or new tabs. It is impossible to undo these changes without uninstalling the adware.
Additionally, go.querymo.com claims to provide search results generated by Yahoo.com (a legitimate search engine). Most adware-type applications gather data that usually includes IP addresses, search queries, keystrokes, URLs of visited websites, geo-locations, and so on.
The information is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Some of the data might contain personal or sensitive data. Therefore, users might encounter privacy or browsing safety issues, or even more serious problems, such as identity theft. Avoid go.querymo.com and uninstall any suspicious/unknown applications from your browsers immediately.

There are many fake search engines available online, most of which are very similar. Users are often forced to visit them, since installed extensions are promoted as 'useful applications' that supposedly provide features or tools.
In most cases, however, these apps are designed only to generate revenue and do not deliver any features or other value. They only cause problems relating to privacy or computer infections.
How did go.querymo.com install on my computer?
As a rule, fake search engines such as go.querymo.com are promoted by rogue applications that are installed unintentionally by users when software developers employ a deceptive marketing method "bundling". Bundling is stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications (adware, browser hijackers, and so on) with regular software.
Developers hide these applications in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings/options of the installation processes. They disclose little information about the presence of bundled apps. Furthermore, many users skip installation steps without carefully studying them, and thus allow these apps to be installed.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid unwanted applications, download and install software with care. Do not download software from unofficial/untrustworthy websites, using torrent clients, or third party downloaders/installers. Use official sources and direct links only. Never rush installation processes - check "Custom" and "Advanced" settings and deselect any potentially unwanted apps.
Bear in mind that most intrusive ads seem legitimate, since developers (potentially, cyber criminals) invest many resources into their design, however, these ads often redirect to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on. They are usually delivered by adware-type applications.
If you encounter redirects to untrustworthy or suspicious websites, check for unwanted/unknown applications (such as plug-ins, extensions, and add-ons) installed on your browser and uninstall them immediately. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate it.
