Feed.moviegoat.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is feed.moviegoat.com?
According to its developers, the Movie Goat application enables access to the latest movie-related content (trailers, news, upcoming movies, awards, and so on) directly from the browser.
These features may seem useful, and Movie Goat may seem legitimate, but this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) - a browser hijacker to be more precise. It is installed without users' knowledge, promotes a fake search engine, and collects data.
Movie Goat promotes the feed.moviegoat.com (also known as moviegoat.com) fake search engine. When this app is installed on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, it changes the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URLs to feed.moviegoat.com. These may not seem important changes, but they cannot be reverted.
The Movie Goat app reassigns browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, it is impossible to revert browsers to their previous states without uninstalling the Movie Goat browser hijacker. While it is installed, users are forced to visit feed.moviegoat.com when a new tab is opened or a search query is entered using the URL bar.
When a search query is entered, users are redirected to search.yahoo.com (a legitimate Yahoo search engine). The feed.moviegoat.com search engine is, therefore, useless. As with many other browser hijackers, Movie Goat collects data such as IP addresses, search queries, keystrokes, URLs of visited websites, geo-locations, and personal or sensitive information.
The details are then shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse them to generate revenue. In summary, having an information tracking app installed might lead to various privacy/browsing safety issues or even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you avoid visiting feed.moviegoat.com (or moviegoat.com) and remove the Movie Goat app immediately.

There are many browsing-hijacking apps (including Utilitool, ObtenezEmail, LokalesWetter, etc.) that promote fake search engines. Furthermore, these apps promote 'enhanced' search engines and offer features (such as access to movie-related content), however, most deliver none of the functionality promised and are designed only to generate revenue.
Some fake search engines deliver misleading redirects and intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, surveys, and so on) - these redirects and ads (and using a fake search engine in general) can lead to computer infections.
How did Movie Goat install on my computer?
Movie Goat has an official website from where it can be downloaded, however, most users (due to lack of knowledge or careless behaviour) allow this browser hijacker to be installed unintentionally. In most cases, users are tricked into installing apps such as Movie Goat when software developers use a deceptive marketing called "bundling".
This is used to install third party applications together with regular software by hiding them in "Advanced", "Custom" or other similar settings. Furthermore, many users rush the installation procedures by skipping steps, thus allowing browser hijackers (or other potentially unwanted applications) to be installed.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to online and computer safety is caution. Download software using official, trustworthy websites or other sources. Avoid using third party software downloaders (or torrents), since these programs are usually monetized by promoting potentially unwanted applications.
Do not finish any installation without first checking "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings/options. Deselect all unwanted applications and only then finish the installation process.
Note that most online advertisements may seem legitimate, but they are often designed by cyber criminals and can lead to untrustworthy websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on).
If you encounter these advertisements, check the list of installed applications (plug-ins and other apps) on your browser and eliminate unwanted, suspicious, or unknown entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with Movie Goat, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
