SpeedyCar Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is SpeedyCar?
SpeedyCar is a rogue application presented as a car racing game. Initially, SpeedyCar may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app is likely to infiltrate systems without users' consent. Furthermore, it delivers intrusive advertisements, mines cryptocurrency, and records sensitive information.
For these reasons, SpeedyCar is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA), adware, and a cryptominer.
Following infiltration, SpeedyCar delivers coupons, banners, pop-ups, and other similar advertisements. To achieve this, developers employ tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. The ads often conceal underlying website content, thereby diminishing the browsing experience.
In addition, delivered ads might redirect to malicious websites, and execute scripts that download and install malware. Therefore, even a single accidental click might result in high-risk computer infection. Another important issue is cryptomining.
This process is essentially utilization of computer hardware (CPU/GPU) to mine cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoins, Monero, etc.) The mining application might take up to 100% of system resources. Therefore, the computer becomes unstable and virtually unusable - it barely responds and can crash, resulting in permanent data loss (unsaved documents).
Furthermore, fully-loaded hardware generates excessive heat. Therefore, under certain circumstances (such as bad cooling systems, high room temperatures, etc.), hardware can overheat. As with most adware, SpeedyCar gathers various sensitive information, such as IP addresses, search queries, URLs visited, and so on.
This data is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) and misused to generate revenue. Therefore, having SpeedyCar installed on your computer might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to eliminate SpeedyCar adware immediately.

There are dozens of adware-type applications that share similarities with SpeedyCar. The list of examples includes (but is not limited to) Xtex, Un-blocking, TigerTrade, CintaNotes, and BoostPC. By offering various "useful features", these applications attempt to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users to install.
Be aware, however, that adware has just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value for regular users, these potentially unwanted applications pose a direct threat to your privacy and web browsing safety.
How did SpeedyCar install on my computer?
SpeedyCar has an official download website, however, it is also distributed using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Therefore, SpeedyCar is very likely to infiltrate systems without permission. "Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications together with regular software/apps.
Developers do not disclose PUA installation properly and "bundled" programs are concealed behind various sections (e.g., "Custom/Advanced" options) of the download or installation processes. Furthermore, many users click advertisements and skip download/installation steps. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise users' privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
To prevent system infiltration by potentially unwanted applications, be cautious when browsing the internet and downloading/installing software. Bear in mind that developers invest many resources into intrusive ad design, thereby making them seem legitimate.
Distinguishing them, however, is easy, since the ads often lead to dubious websites, such as pornography, surveys, adult dating sites, and so on. If you see these ads, immediately remove all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. Furthermore, it is important to carefully analyze each download/installation step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings.
Opt-out of additionally-included applications and decline offers to download/install them. We recommend that you download programs only from official sources, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue apps, and thus should never be used.
The key to computer safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with SpeedyCar, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
