GetPoliticalNews Toolbar

What is hp.myway.com?
GetPoliticalNews is a deceptive application that claims to allow access to the latest political news (and various media, and other channels) directly from the browser. This is not the only app developed by identical Mindspark Interactive Network, which offers many apps with different functionalities.
GetPoliticalNews may seem useful (especially for those who are interested in politics), however, it is also categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and, more specifically, a browser hijacker. Applications of this type are often installed inadvertently and promote dubious search engines.
GetPoliticalNews infiltrates the most popular browsers such as Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer. Once installed, it assigns the new browser windows and tabs, default search engine, and homepage options to hp.myway.com.
These changes may not seem significant, but they cannot be reversed in the usual way, since GetPoliticalNews reverts them to its settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore. users are forced to visit hp.myway.com as long as GetPoliticalNews is installed.
There is no evidence that this application/browser hijacker gathers any personal data, however, many other browser hijackers do. As a rule, collected information contains information such as IP addresses, keystrokes, visited websites, geo-locations, search queries and other data that might contain personal or sensitive information.
Later, this data is shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and used to generate revenue. Shared data might be misused and users could thus experience privacy issues or even identity theft. In any case, we recommend that you uninstall the GetPoliticalNews application immediately.

As mentioned in our introduction, Mindspark Interactive Network has created more than several browser hijackers similar to GetPoliticalNews, such as FreePDFCombiner, ProjectBabyName, MyCalendarPlanner, EasyPackageTracker, etc.
Although these applications are designed to provide users with different features, most share similarities - they are promoted as legitimate and useful applications and are designed to generate revenue.
How did GetPoliticalNews install on my computer?
Browser hijackers such as GetPoliticalNews can be downloaded from their official websites, however, most are installed together with freeware (free software). This usually happens when users take the quickest route to install a particular program without paying attention to what comes together with the package, and also agreeing to everything by jumping through installation steps.
Therefore, software developers often use the "bundling" method to trick users into installing various PUAs. Bundling is stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software.
Software developers hide these apps in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections, without properly disclosing these additional installations. In some cases, potentially unwanted applications are installed through clicked intrusive ads.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download and install software with care, especially if it is free. We do not recommend that you skip installation steps - study each checkbox and "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and deselect unwanted offers (including the GetPoliticalNews browser hijacker). Avoid using third party software downloaders or installers - this software is often monetized by promoting PUAs.
Avoid clicking intrusive ads. Some might redirect to untrustworthy websites, such as gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on. If you happen to be redirected to a dubious website after you clicked an ad, close the opened browser window/tab and check for suspicious/unwanted extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons applied to your browser, or programs installed on your computer.
Remove/uninstall unknown/unwanted entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with GetPoliticalNews, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
