TextToTalk Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is TextToTalk?
TextToTalk is a deceptive application that offers a synthesizer, which converts entered text to audio. Note that this app is categorized as potentially unwanted adware-type application that is typically installed inadvertently. TextToTalk may seem legitimate, but despite appearances, these applications often display intrusive advertisements and collect sensitive information.
As mentioned above, TextToTalk is a potentially unwanted application that gathers browsing-related data (such as IP addresses, keystrokes, search queries, geo-locations, visited URLs, etc.), and other information that might contain personal details or sensitive details.
Furthermore, collected data is often used to generate revenue and shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals). If this information falls into the wrong hands, users might experience privacy/browsing safety issues or even identity theft.
TextToT can also deliver intrusive ads (coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc.) that are displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any visited website. This is likely to diminish the browsing experience. Furthermore, when clicked, these ads can redirect users to potentially malicious (or untrustworthy) websites.
These redirects risk computer infiltration by high-risk computer infections. Therefore, we recommend that you uninstall applications such as TextToTalk immediately.

The Internet is full of applications like TextToTalk (other examples are TigerTrade, SystemNanoPacks, and HidenGate). These applications claim to be legitimate by offering various "useful" features or tools, however, they are designed only to generate revenue by collecting information and displaying ads.
In many cases, these apps do not deliver the functionality promised and having them installed risks privacy/browsing safety issues.
How did TextToTalk install on my computer?
Apps like TextToTalk sometimes have official websites from which they can be downloaded (this app has an official download website), however, they are also installed through third party software and intrusive ads.
Software developers often use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications (such as TextToTalk) with regular (typically free) software. These apps are often hidden in "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings/options of the installation processes.
Developers are aware of the tendency for most users to skip installation steps or click intrusive ads, and they use this behaviour to their advantage. This behaviour often leads to computer infections and privacy issues.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download/install software and browse the web with caution. Download software from official and trustworthy websites only, and use direct links. Avoid using third party downloaders/installers or torrents to download software. Third party downloaders/installers are often monetized by promoting potentially unwanted applications.
Do not skip installation steps without first checking the "Advanced", "Custom", and other options/settings of the installation processes. Carefully analyze each installation step and deselect additional software/offers. Only then proceed to the next step or finish the installation.
Be careful is intrusive ads appear when browsing the web - they may be legitimate, but once clicked, many redirect users to dubious/untrustworthy websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.). If you encounter these redirects, close the website immediately and check your browser for unwanted extensions, add-ons, plug-ins, and remove them.
Ensure that there are no unwanted/unknown programs installed on your computer. If your computer is already infected with TextToTalk, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
