Limbotime.com POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is limbotime.com?
Identical to kaymopk.com, karonty.com, go.leadgid.ru and many others, limbotime.com is a rogue website designed to cause redirects to other untrustworthy websites.
Few users visit limbotime.com willingly - in most cases they are redirected to it by potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that are installed accidentally or inadvertently. Programs of this type also deploy intrusive ads, record data, and affect computer performance.
Potentially unwanted programs can be installed as an extension, add-on, or a plug-in within a web browser or as a program in the operating system. Once installed, PUPs often open new browser tabs/windows and redirect users to the limbotime.com site, which then causes redirects (usually 2-3) to dubious websites.
It is likely that one of these sites will contain some malicious content. These redirects can also lead to high-risk computer infections. Furthermore, PUPs tend to deliver intrusive ads that, once clicked, might lead to untrustworthy (potentially malicious websites). Some can even execute scripts that download and install malware.
Furthermore, most of these ads are displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site (and conceal underlying content).
Another downside of potentially unwanted programs is that they record user-system information (IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, search queries, visited websites, keystrokes, geo-locations, and other data that will contain personally identifiable details. These details are shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) to generate revenue.
Data tracking can thus lead to privacy/browsing safety issues and even identity theft. Some potentially unwanted programs also misuse system resources and reduce computer performance. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you uninstall potentially unwanted programs immediately.

Most PUPs are virtually identical and have one purpose: to generate revenue by collecting information, delivering intrusive ads, and causing unwanted redirects. Developers offer various "useful" features, however, these programs deliver none of the functionality promised and give no real value for regular users.
How did adware install on my computer?
Most potentially unwanted programs can be downloaded from their official websites, however, this is not generally how they are downloaded and installed. Typically, PUPs are installed through intrusive ads that are capable of executing certain scripts, or they are 'bundled' with other software.
Bundling is a deceptive marketing method used to stealthily install potentially unwanted programs with other regular software. Developers tend to hide these programs within "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings of the installation processes, and they do not disclose PUP installations properly.
Therefore, it is easy to install this software inadvertently - PUPs developers are aware that many users skip installation steps, and they take advantage of this fact.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid these installations, download software from official and trustworthy websites only. Avoid using third party software downloaders, torrents, or other similar software. Furthermore, when installing software, analyze each step by checking "Advanced"/"Custom" and other similar settings of the installation process. Deselect all unwanted offers and only then finish the installation.
Be careful when clicking ads (especially intrusive ads) - they often appear legitimate, since developers (potentially cyber criminals) invest extensive resources into their design, however, once clicked, they might redirect to untrustworthy websites (such as adult dating, pornography, gambling etc.).
If you happen to click an advertisement and are redirected to a website of this type, close the site (browser window or tab) and check if there are any suspicious software installed on your browser (extensions, plug-ins, add-ons, etc.) and your computer. Remove suspicious software immediately.
Keep your antivirus software enabled at all times. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them .
