Karonty.com POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is karonty.com?
karonty.com is a rogue website virtually identical to many others of this type, such as rambler.ru, datsadstrack.com, and eazydevlin.xyz All redirect to various other suspicious/untrustworthy sites.
Users often visit karonty.com inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that are typically installed inadvertently. PUPs provide dubious advertisements, collect data, and misuse system resources.
Once installed, potentially unwanted programs instruct browsers to open new tabs/windows with the karonty.com website, which then causes additional (typically 2-3) redirects to other untrustworthy websites that often contain malicious content and cause high-risk computer infections.
PUPs are known to record user-system information such as IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, visited websites, search queries, keystrokes, search queries, geo-locations and other personally identifiable details. Collected data is usually shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) so that developers can generate revenue from it.
These actions might cause serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Revenue can also be generated by providing various intrusive ads.
This is the role of potentially unwanted programs, which deliver various unwanted (intrusive) advertisements such as banners, coupons, pop-ups etc., that are displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content.
Once clicked, these ads are likely to redirect users to other malicious websites or even execute scripts that download and install potentially unwanted programs (or even malware).
Furthermore, some potentially unwanted programs are known to run various background tasks and, in doing so, they reduce overall computer performance. You are advised to uninstall all potentially unwanted programs.

Most PUPs are virtually identical and share an identical purpose - to generate revenue by collecting information, delivering various intrusive, ads and causing unwanted redirects.
The software developers attempt to trick users into downloading these potentially unwanted programs by offering various "useful" features (or tools), however, few PUPs give any real value for regular users or provide the functionality promised.
How did adware install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted programs can be downloaded from their official websites, however, they are usually installed through the aforementioned intrusive ads or when software developers use the "bundling" method. Bundling is a deceptive marketing method used to stealthily install software (such as potentially unwanted programs) with other regular software.
These installations are not properly disclosed and unwanted software is hidden in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections of the installation processes.
Careless behaviour such as skipping installation steps often leads to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs. Clicking on intrusive ads without understanding the possible outcome can also lead to these installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software from official and trustworthy sources only (especially if it is free or ad-supportive). Avoid using third party software downloaders and installers. Check all available "Advanced"/Custom" and other sections/settings of the installation process, and do not skip the installation steps without first checking these settings.
Make sure that there are no checkboxes ticked by default, indicating that you agree to install potentially unwanted software. Be cautious when clicking on ads, since malicious ads (or other untrustworthy ads) can appear legitimate, but once clicked, they will redirect you to untrustworthy sites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.
If you happen to click one of these ads, close opened tab or windows and check if there are any new plug-ins, add-ons, or extensions installed on your browser, or unwanted programs installed on your computer. Remove unwanted software immediately.
If your computer is already infected with karonty.com, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
