QuickFlightTracker Toolbar
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is hp.myway.com?
QuickFlightTracker is a rogue application that, according to the developers, provides various information about international flights. This app may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.
The main reasons for these negative associations are stealth installation (without users' consent) and modification of web browser settings.
This browser hijacker promotes a fake web search engine (hp.myway.com). Immediately after infiltration, QuickFlightTracker hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, stealthily assigning the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to hp.myway.com Furthermore, although these changes may seem significant, users are unable to revert them.
Research shows that QuickFlightTracker continues to reassign browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are encouraged to visit hp.myway.com when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar.
This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience. Although QuickFlightTracker is not confirmed to record information, most browser hijackers perform this function. These applications typically record IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar data that usually includes personal information.
Once recorded, the information is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). These people misuse private information to generate revenue. Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. QuickFlightTracker and other browser hijackers must be uninstalled immediately.

QuickFlightTracker's developers (Mindspark Interactive Network a.k.a. IAC Applications) have released dozens of identical browser-hijacking applications including, for example, SmartEasyMaps, TaxInfoHelp, ThePresidentSays, and BabyNameReady.
Although these applications offer different features, their behavior is identical. Browser hijackers such as QuickFlightTracker are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. In fact, all browser hijackers are very similar. Rather than giving any real value for regular users, these PUPs cause unwanted redirects and gather sensitive information.
How did QuickFlightTracker install on my computer?
This browser hijacker has an official download website, however, developers also proliferate it using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Intrusive advertisements redirect users to malicious websites and execute scripts that stealthily download and install malware.
"Bundling", on the other hand, is the deceptive installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps. Developers hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes - they do not disclose this information properly.
Furthermore, many users are likely to click various ads and skip download/installation steps - behavior that often leads to inadvertent installation of PUPs together with regular software. In this way, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software.
Be aware that intrusive advertisements often seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into intrusive ad design, however, they redirect to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on. They are often delivered by potentially unwanted adware-type programs.
Therefore, if you experience suspicious redirects, immediately remove all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. Furthermore, carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs and cancel additionally-included programs. You are advised to download software from official sources only, using direct download links.
Third party downloaders/installers are monetized using the "bundling" method, and thus should never be used. If your computer is already infected with QuickFlightTracker, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
